Hi all,
An addition or alternative to the Marmotte next year iis the BRA (Brevet de randonneur des Alpes) which is an event that takes place every two years around Grenoble. It's a cyclotourist event, where the goal is just to finish rather than get a placing. No timing chips here but the guys at the front are racing for the first place.

It's a 225 kilometre route that starts and finishes in Vizille near Grenoble. There is 4650 metres of climbing with the Col du Galibier, Col du Mollard and the Col de la Croix de Fer. All beautiful climbs. No Alpe d'Huez at the end though.
I rode in 2007 and really enjoyed it. More relaxed than the Marmotte and hundreds of cyclists. Some take two days to ride the route, others take a day. Here was my video diary of the 225 kilometre event which started at 5:30am.

Something to think about if you're in the area.
Cheers, Russell

Thanks for the info Russell. I've downloaded the PDFs and bookmarked bits. It's now on my list of possibilities for next year. I'll see if anyone else's interested.
I enjoyed your vids - I think I've seen a couple before, but they were still good on a second viewing.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0
