Warning - idiot in a white Porsche in Putney

This is a heads up for anyone riding through Putney as much as it is a theraputic rant. Watch out for a white Porsche 944 (I think) Club Sport (you can't miss the foot-high red lettering down the sides of the car). The nice lady driver overtook me in moving traffic on Lower Richmond Road, then immediatly turned left into a side street directly in front of me. I hit her door & front wing fairly hard, ending up on the pavement in a heap as she skidded to a hault. She had a good look at me and then shot off down the street. Nice. Once I was sure I was unhurt and that my bike was not bent, I went after her, but she was long gone. Giver her a wide berth if you see her first.

That's 'failing to stop' and I'm pretty sure it's an offence. No doubt Spen will be along in a minute to confirm/correct...

Anyhow, report the incident to the fuzz as the next cyclist she hits may not be so lucky as to escape damage.

It definitely is an offence. Report her with a description as there can't be too many porsches matching that description around. Did anyone else witness it?

  • Definitely report this incident to the police - there will almost certainly be cctv footage of roads around the area, which would probably reveal the numberplate of such a distinctive car - there may even be footage of the actual incident...good luck, and glad you're ok.

Hit and run the skum, how can you stop look at some one you have just with with a 1 tonne block of metal and hten drive off. Call the cops report it and kick up a stink. Accedents happen on the road but people have got to stay and take resopnceability for what they have done.

Long time lurker, first time poster...

Just to add - this road is part of my commute, I've seen that car a number of times along that road and the Fulham Road too, so it must be a local car. I'll keep an eye out, look for any damage and grab a registration number if I see it again.

Shame it's so badly driven as the CS is a fine drivers car! And it's a 968 not a 944.

I'm glad you're ok and i'm sorry to read what happened to you.

Just thought i'd mention that incase you're going to report it...I could be wrong but it's more likely a 968 Club Sport as they didn't do a 944 CS. Although it could be a 944 with wrong stickers on...

Editted to add...didn't see the post above when I mentioned the model. sorry.
    <insert witty comment here>

Also, I have calculated my FCN as 12...although I have no idea what that actually means.
  • On my route too, sure I've seen it before. Will keep an eye out.

  • Hey Guys

A mate of mine just sent me a link to this post and ive even signed up to this forum so i can reply.

I commute to the Fulham road (near the shell garage). Myself and a couple of my colleages have reguarly seen a woman driving a car of that discription. She normaly parks on Durrell Rd or somtimes on Fulham Park Gardens near the pizza Express on the corner. Im guessing she lives or works in the area. Ill keep a look out and take down her plate next time i see it.

    Cheers

Spot on, was just going to post the same thing, almost certain to be a 968CS, 944 has fully covered pop up headlamps, 968 was the replacement and has 928 style lights, ie you can see them even when they are down.

Probably something around an L-M plate, assuming it has a standard plate on it.

EDIT: Didn't see the post above either

Everyone on here that has witnessed this vehicle MUST report it .

If the police get a number of reports they will take it far more seriously and take action.

Uh uh. No. Nobody else apart from the OPer has even vaguely hinted at seeing the car being driven irresponsibly, let alone witnessing a RTA. There is nothing for anyone to report except Will Lea. Though he can easily take the number plate from one of the other posters.

May people have seen the car around, but not the accident itself nor any other bad driving by it - so nothing to report surely?

As to the model - clearly my car-based posts are invisible.....!

There is also a Yellow 968 CS floating around that area too.

Hit and run in an extremely distinctive (and rare) local car - the driver not only needs arresting, she also needs a new brain.

I'm a total car nerd and remember reg numbers even if I just spot them quickly. Helped me dish out "justice" when someone ran me off my bike in a car once. Took me two weeks to find the car but I can safely say that he won't do it again.

Uh uh ...YES.. I'll clarify, anyone seen it being driven erratically (and there are a number on this forum)or knows where the driver and /or vehicle resides , report it.

A mate of mine (well used to be!) got done for driving erratically after being reported.

He was a very aggressive driver (and hopeless) and deserved it but didn't actually cause an accident - just upset some old geezer in an old Rover.

certainly seems to be failing to stop- even though her car stopped she has to provide details to anyone who wants them- she did not wait to allow this

Fail to report- unless she went to the police station ASAP and in any event within 24 hours

    Careless driving as well perhaps

If she turned left off the LRR and drives a porsche she almost certainly lives in the residential streets between LRR and URR. What time was the accident, Will? If you think she'll be parked up in Putney now let me know and I'll go search for her!

(p.s. was at a conference today and am already home so I can do it now)

I don't suppose its necessary to point out that there might be more than one silver porche in a given area of london?

Make sure you let the tyres down on EVERY porche you see, just to be sure.

I don't think it's necessary to point out there's more than one specific type of porsche with brand new paintwork damage on its left side, no. Also, it's not like we're going to key it - I'll just take the registration number and if they're innocent then they have nothing to worry about :)

Anyway, Will, if you think she'll still be in Putney I'm very happy to take a look now - let me know.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's pretty distinctive - white bodywork, large red lettering on the side. The Clubsport model is quite rare in itself, in white even more so.....

That's what David Blunkett said about ID cards. Before long they will record every number plate on every car and take photos every time you drive into the city centre.

Well I'm supposed to be doing a very short run as I'm mid-taper for this weekends race, but now I'm tempted to run to Putney and search out the offending car.

Well chaps I think I might have beaten you all to it! Found a car which matches the description not a million miles away from the LRR after taking the long route home - and on the first street I looked.

That of course doesn't mean it's the same car - Will do you remember anything distinctive about the car? Do you know if you left any marks or damage? The one I've found has some distinguishing features and an unusual numberplate. It would be completely inappropriate for me to post the plate or pictures here as it might be a completely innocent car, but if Will can add any further details then that would help.

I hope you have reported this to the police, as the driver might have had a change of mind and at least reported it herself.

Good call - the owner may be a very safe driver and keen cyclist? Who is to say the car wasn't used by a friend / workmate / neighbor at the time of incident?

    Thats my 2p's worth :?
