L.A to ride in Tour de France if organisers 'respectful'

  • If his comeback is to raise awareness of cancer, surely he'll selflessly be targeting the highest profile events, regardless of how "welcoming" they are to him.

I really can't believe the gullibility of his fan base.

I do admit that I am trying to work out what cancer awareness gains from him racing again. In my own opinion, I would prefer he sponsors a Livestrong team at (maybe) the Continental or US level then builds it up - for me that has more appeal.

Whilstever he rides for Astana, surely all he promotes awareness of is 'Kazakh Railways'?
  • ha ha,

Whilst we are doing conspiracies this is mine...
ASO know the drugs LA is planning to take so they invite him to the Tour rubbing their hands with glee.

LA romps to the yellow jersey in Paris before two Gendarmes lead him from the podium in chains having got 21 positives (one for each stage) from him.

    could happen you know.

Obviously Armstrong would test positive for E.G.O.

And a Livestrong team might be a better way of going about it. But Astana already has a set up which won't cost Armstrong anything, they get lots of free publicity, and for your average punter it's Armstrong's interviews which will get the message across, rather than his riding (especially as it looks like he might be riding for Contador in the TdF).

If he wants to raise awareness, why not do the Tour of Malaysia, the Tour du Faso, the Vuelta a Chile and the Qinghai Lake Tour? Most of Europe and the US is well aware of cancer and the Nike yellow wristband empire.

Hit the nail on the head there i think. Who in westen Europe, North America or Australasia isn't aware of cancer and cancer research organisations and charities?

He just wants to kick ass and be top dog again which is fine by me. I'm not a fan, i do suspect he rode on more than bread and water (but so to, i suspect, did just about all his rivals) but im with dennis on the potential spectacle of it all. if he does ride the TDF then i for one will be glued to the tv to see what happens for many mnay reasons and if he does raise a few more dollars for the cancer cause then brilliant.

I agree with Dennis, its all about drama....Lance will ride, if on 80% form he will win...millions will love him, the ever present Anti Lance mob (which has a large subscription on this forum) will hate him further and say he's on new undetectable drugs...blah blah blah....

Personally I admire the man...a man which which can overcome so much adversity, just think for a tiny moment how much money that man has raised for the fight against Cancer....and the awareness he has created....theres a long road in life and who knows?....theres a good chance many relations of the Anti Lance army(or even themselves) will fall prey to the disease...and his story gives such hope, and maybe the money he has riased could help in a good few survivals?

Lance is just the victim of utter success, lots of people do not like winners, Lance gets such a hard time on forums and the like due to having the technology to do so, the anti-eddy merckx army would be just as hateful in his day, same with Anquitel, and they hated Big Mig for his 'boringness'..

Theres more talk on this forum about Lance and drug use than any other rider...and 99% of the other riders were found guilty....Lance has never tested positive...and was tested 3 times more than any other rider...I'm not saying he was 100% clean, all I'm saying why does he creat such reaction and other riders don't?....I think I know...hes just too successfull...and he was on a totally different level to others...drugs or not....he's way more than a cyclist....already a world legend who inspies millions.

oh my God, get me the puke bucket please....

How could somebody be so bloody naive??? I hope this is a joke

I bet most Lancey-pansey fans dont even know that Astana is a city or where Kazakhstan is... If they did (and as most of them are Americans) there would be chaos as most Americans will think that Lance has become a terrorist hahaha

Lancey-pansey :? :? :? Good one, that made me laugh. Seriously. Even though it didn't rhyme.

Naive?...I'm not naive...never have been....I just like to point out the reality...however you may percieve it?....are you saying any of my comments are untrue?....if so then please give me proof of your validation...I'm not a man of sides...I just point out the truth?...

Big sweeping brash comments don't wash here....I've had to deal with many passionate unrealistic viewpoints....but I always find that these 'non acceptance of the truth' offerings are always from a impulsive non acceptance person.......I personally never liked the greats of many sports...I always wanted the 'people's champion to win'...but deep down I knew who the best was...even if it didn't please me.....

C'mon Richy Boy, you don't expect to put a post like that on here and don't expect to be challenged? You might have got away with such fan-boy rhetoric about 4 years ago, but the arguments been done to death and have moved-on. Besides, the biggest risk to Astana's entry to the Tour is a certain Mr Vinokourov - Astana as the main sponsor will want him there if he gets his licence back, but can anyone see ASO allowing it to happen, Lance or Contador notwithstanding?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Richy boy, I thought like that for ages... then I looked at Lance's power outputs at ftp and started to realise the lie and I felt like a bit of a fool for defending him in the past. But you're right. Nobody has successfully convicted him but it's obvious he was doped. Whether he will be on his comeback, we'll see.

Contador is obviously doped, too, so I don't really care which of them wins. I'll be looking a bit further down the line for guys operating around 6.0 w/kg as the real deal clean riders.
