Will a compact chainset for a 9 speed or 10 speed etc be ok to run on an 7 speed (18 speed set at the moment)
I'm looking at buying a compact but i can't find any that are made to run with a 7 speed freewheel :(.
Any info would be great.....thanks Caz xxxxxxxxx

a 7/8 speed chain is wider than a 9 or 10 spd, so you may have issues with the chain rubbing when using small-smalll, but in every other gear combination it should be fine.

The internal width of a chain is the same for 7,8,9 and 10 speed chains, so any chain will sit on any chainring without any problems.
