Compacts for 9 speed

Will a compact chainset for a 9 speed or 10 speed etc be ok to run on an 7 speed (18 speed set at the moment)
I'm looking at buying a compact but i can't find any that are made to run with a 7 speed freewheel
.

a 7/8 speed chain is wider than a 9 or 10 spd, so you may have issues with the chain rubbing when using small-smalll, but in every other gear combination it should be fine.
The internal width of a chain is the same for 7,8,9 and 10 speed chains, so any chain will sit on any chainring without any problems.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
