I'm about to purchase a replacement helmet - does anyone own or have maybe seen this helmet? I note they are cheap and have a safety award rarely given. Just wondered whether they actually have any style at all though!?

Yep I've got one. Does me fine - looks good, performance is good, especially for the money. Can't comment on the impact protection of it though (thankfully).

sorry but I am going to upset the two previous posters

they look bloody awful - they are massive with very little venting - like a big polystyrene fruit bowl for your heed.

    they are however, very cheap.

the 'propero' or something looks miles better - but is double the price - It has the looks of the top of the range 2D

I tried & liked the propero, but like you say £70. The spec. airforce3 really is a massive fruitbowl, it only comes in one "universal" size , so I'm hoping the Chamonix will be a bit better as it comes in S / M / L.

re Chamonix see the fully reasoned debate in road beginners forum "lids"

it's odd that the Bike radar review changed from saying it looks wierd without the peak, to saying it loooks good with or without

actually - I'll rephrase my statement slightly - the chamonix just doesn't look "road-racy" - if that makes sense - I guess as a commuter or even an MTB helmet (which I assume it is designed as one given the name) - it probably looks ok

the propero is probably worth the extra come summertime mind - that extra venting will pay dividends then.

I have the S-Works 2D - which I got for free (long story) - i'm not sure i would pay the £100+ asking for it - but I think I would pay the propero money.

Aha, I did think there must be some pay off to the safety catergory that this lid has passed and err not spending a lot on a lid, ie the style factor disappears. Well the fruit bowl effect is definately not what i'm after. I already have a large ish head and dont wont to exacerbate the condition. Vanity eh...
  • Bought the Spec. Air Force 3 last week LBS run out of Chamonix, AF3 £25 Chamonix £30 both Snell approved but I ride MTB so don't need it to look so "aerodynamically cool".

Ridden hard about 3 times, weight and cooling no problem - looks are very subjective but for the money go for it! - this is my 1st helmet so in time may want to spend more money for looks, styling, ventilation etc. but as a cheap lid you can't go wrong!

Only downside is the clip on visor detaches easily in a rucksack but can cure that with some modifications.
