I thought there were some pretty decent suggestions in there, bearing in mind they could only pretty much select one bike per class.

Lots of the comments moaned about elitism etc but apart from the two expensive mountain bikes and the Scott they were all reasonably priced bikes.

Jeez some people want the Moon on a bloody stick eh!

It's not that bad - but a bike with no pedals for kids up to the age of 8?? that's a bit out of order really....

Agreed upto the age of 8 is a bit old as you'd expect em to be riding properly by then!
Mine where about 4 or 5 when I could finally remove the stabilizers but I think the next one down will have it mastered soon if we get any more decent weekends!

I think the idea behind the sans-pedal bikes is to teach the kids balance, I've converted one of our old ones and it does seem to help. The kids can kick themselves along and lift feet up then balance, rather then relying on stabilizers to keep em upright :-)

As for the rest of the bikes I don't think we can expect a newspaper to be spot on, they probably just got the work experience kid to have a look on the Evans website and find some nice expensive bikes in each category :-D

Meh, seems an utterly pointless premise - they're not the ten best bikes at all - but the bikes they've chosen all do the job. Now, of course, they need to extend each section, explain what each type of bike does, what it's good for, who should buy it, and what some options are.

Also I find it hard to believe that a £6-700 Ridgeback or a Genesis should ever get near a list with "best" in it, but I think that's the snob in me talking.
  • Sort of OK-ish, given that they're selecting one bike per class.

Very happy to see Islabikes in there. They make great kids' bikes and properly deliver on the promises about their bikes on their website.

P!ss poor to use that picture, which is not the right picture from the Islabikes range though. The right picture is here http://www.islabikes.co.uk/bike_pages/beinn26.html
