Can anyone tell me if the fork will develop a problem if there is no lockout screw on it. I lost this out on a trail recently and i can't get any of GT's distributors to give me answers.

Just the top cap has come off nothing else. I reckon it must have got snagged on some loose branches or something.

No pics yet but i'll get some.

well if there are no openings it should be OK.

But as the fork is not listed on the SR site....

Yeah i know but if you look at the Gt site it shows it as a standard fork with the bike.

I'd be awfully unhappy if the fork went pear shaped because of the design of a pop on cap.

Ok, i've managed to get some info on this (handy for anyone else who rides this bike)

Aparently SRSuntour know there is a problem with the design and they are working on it but for now they just give you a new lever which pops back on.

    Distributor is http://www.greyville.com

It is the same lockout lever as in on the Suntour XCR fork (those with lockout). I have had mine come off but fortunately I got it back and stuck it back on. I don't think there will be any mechanical problems by having the area exposed - I couldn't see any openings when I lost mine. I just pushed mine back on, if it comes off again I shall consider glueing it on!
