How many lights have you got?

It's been suggested that everyone here has lights. Let's see if anyone that doesn't is brave enough to fess up...

I've got one front and back, in the form of a Tesco set. I was happy enough with them on a dark country lane last night, but I may buy a supplementary set in the future.

2 x cateye EL510's and a 3w CREE LED Tesco torch up front, Cateye TL-LD600, Blackburn Mars 3.0 and a Mars 4.0 1watt (on order) for the rear. Together with a few micro flashy ones on by rucksack.......think Blackpool Illuminations.......

Rear - 2 Cateye Holy Hand Grenades, 1 Smart 1/2W and 2x photon backupz in my helmet vents

My 2005 Trek 1200 double upgraded with new KMC chain, Ultegra Cassette and Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels, armed with a small, light cateye on the front and a Mars 3.0 at the back. It's theoretically my winter bike, and will justify the term more when I stick the raceblades on it.

    Oh that sounds posh

Do you think I will trash my road bike if I take it out over the winter?

I don't think so. Maybe avoid it when they've gritted/salted the roads, but that's really not often.

Hehe - I did too after checking the weather forecast! No excuses tomorrow though, and visiting a friend after work will add 10 miles or so to my journey, which sort of makes up for it.

When do we get a photo of Gladys?

I have lots and lots of lights, but only seven on the bike. The rest are in reserve, or have been superceded.
This post contains traces of nuts.
  • A cateye single LED on the back with a tesco 3LED on the pannier (which also has that reflective scotchtape trim. Up front a single LED cateye and I had a tesco torch but needs new batteries - but won't be getting any. ... I am going to get a llight set for the road bike with spare brakets and share the lights between my two bikes (and keep the tesco rear LED on the pannier when using the hybrid.

I always wear my bright yellow jacket when dark and if wearing trousers they either have trim or I wear some scotchguard wraparound bands

~Despite my best efforts the combination of dark and rain has seen 3 cars try to knock me off at junctions me on the main road - right of way - them turning in or turning out. :(

I've only recently started commuting, but still I have these.

One of these, that stays on the bike all the time, just incase I get caught. Very impressed, as it lights up the front of the bike too.

One of these for riding to/from work the road way..
    352-og.jpg

A Cateye Stadium 3 (brighter than the Hope 4 LED) for off-road riding, sometimes to & from work, if its not too muddy.

I also have a headtorch, for off-roading, but I don't use it for commuting, that really is overkill then!

Nearly forgot... On the rear I have the Smart 1/2 watt light.

Hope 1 LED up front, some Topeak little rear flashy light, and a hi viz vest.
Will helmet mount my Tesco 3W cree AA torch thingy if properly off roading.

Not been killed yet so seems to work.

Always use two on the rear - how expensive is a battery compared to your life ? And lights have been able to fail - so you could be riding along with nothing to light you up.

2 Cateye EL135s on the front and 1 Cateye LD150 on the back and a spare one in the rucksack
  • I have a Cateye double shot and a Cateye EL135 on the front. I have 2 flashing back lights with about 5 leds in each (can't remember what make etc they are). I do feel like I need / want more on the back. 1 more for my helmet and 1 more for my bag.

Currently have 2 on the back (1 on the seatstay, 1 on the seatpost) but I'm going to get another for the other seatstay just so it's symmetrical... On the front I have 3: Fenix L2D, Blinky Smart thing and a Tesco one. I'm also looking into attaching LEDs to my pedals as there's no way to fit reflectors (Eggbeaters).

You can also buy tyreflys off Ebay for a couple of quid - lights on your tyre valves - they look great when I see them on other bikes - good side visibility. And you can buy 3M reflective tape that you can stick all over your bike/kit.

    I have these little beauties

    http://www.awcycles.co.uk/brands/Trek/Beacon%20Bar%20End%20Lights/13029/index.aspx

Can anyone recommend a cheap bright light suitable for riding in country lanes type darkness? I'm, only doing the one journey (about 20 miles) so am loath to spend £50 quid but need something brighter than a blinking cateye if you know what I mean.

Fenix L2D or LD20 and a lockblock. Comes to 43 or 45 quid - but you will see where you are going - plus you have a normal torch you can use off the bike.

is it like the number of mirrors the mods put on their scooters? the more you have and all that?

Are we going to see folks on bikes lit up like a council house at christmas? Actually, that just got me thinking....can you get little light up santa's for handle bars?
