need to fix my bike before selling it.

Found my dream bike on ebay so now it's time to sell my current rig. It's an '06 specialized Bighit 3. Problems are: Rear bolt or hub, not sure which, is trashed I can't screw the wheel back in place (12mm bolted). Also the gears have a delayed pickup i.e push the cranks and there is a slight pause before the wheel moves. I have a new cassette but I fear the problem runs deeper than this.

So anyway looking at getting a new hub to lace to my rear rim (it is a year old - 2 months moderate use if that 729). What is the cheapest but sort of respectable and tough hub I can get - cheaper than a pro 2 if possible. Are shimano just not tough enough? Because my mate has run an XT for a couple of years now on his DH bike, hits bigger stuff than I do but has no problems.
Would this solve the delayed pickup problem as well or is that to do with something else? Finally where can I get a new axle setup from? As I'm not sure which one would suit.
If you've read to here thanks a lot, any help welcome.
Cheers Fabien

EDIT: "have a new derailleur" was meant to be cassette.

2006 I did include this info though. It definitely says shimano on it and assumed it was XT but it's not saint (even though that's 10 I know). Just want the cheapest quality hub really and expected shimano to be the best option. Just changed the cable and derailleur and meant to mention in the previous post that I have a new cassette as well.

just checking as there are no big hits with 12mm rear ends. 10mm nutted yes.

but what is the problem with fitting the hub? as it is unlikely that a new hub would fix it unless you can see obvious damage.

are you sure you have not bent the drop out/mech hanger rear end?

OH! Did not know that  I have 2 bolts, one of which is threaded all the way to a toothed collar thing on it - hard to explain. The other is threaded only half way and is slightly longer. I presume they meet somewhere in the middle. This will only screw in to the end of the thread leaving it hanging out of the frame about 1.5cm. Just for the record this happens when I put it in either side. It is quite possible that it has lost a collar but where I did the work on it is concreted floor so I would have heard it drop for one thing and it doesn't (like the other one) look like it's supposed to as it doesn't have various washers or seals just a pretty much plain bolt.

EDIT: The wheel all tightened up fits perfectly in the frame so I'm pretty sure it's not a bent hanger/ dropout problem thankfully.

That doesn't seem to be the case as I have removed the wheel before and they definitely appear to be 2 separate entities and they don't have that harsh end synonymous with a snapped axle. I will check regardless though.
