I'm not a hard core montain biker yet, in fact this is only my second season for XC and liight free ride trail riding. Only got a claud butler frame at the mo but has been upgraded to XT running gear and eastin finishing kit. At the moment i have the rubbish stock front wheel and a mavic XM117 from a cape wrath. These mavics are on special at the mo from merlins with a full set of 2007 Xt disc brakes with dual control and 160mm rotors. all for just £210. What do you people think about these wheels?????

I got mine stock with my focus superbud, And I love them, weight good and the spokes look cool as well, black and they are flat instead of round.
Most people rate Mavic's, I have had mine a year, and they been great.
I even bashed my rim against a curb real hard that it punctured my tube, thought the rim was gone as well, but no its fine.
I would recomend.0 -
thanks for your reply. I have seen they are stock on the focus and look nice. Are the hubs sealed and are they 6 bolt or are they splined for shimano discs????]0

You went over my head mate.
I am quite new, I used to bike when I was younger, stopped for like 10 years due to travel and stuff.
And now just getting back into it, so I am just learning myself.
Sorry dude, I just know they are good wheels.0 -
They have cartridge bearings with good seals and mine have 6 bolt rotors although they are available with Shimano fitment. The deal from Merlin is a cracker, but I think it's only so they can get rid of the Shimano XT dual control levers/shifters! They're not the greatest idea ever to come out of Shimano.0

cheers for the advice fightingcat. I know that the dual controls are not the best however i'm using the lx version on my v's at the moment and find they suit me superbly. Personal pref i think, plus the XT can only be better than the lx ones im using now. Your're right about the merlin deal, what a cracking deal!!
Anyone got any suggestions for a good set of discs/shifters and wheelset for the same mony (bout £210)0
