Can anyone suggest a small company making clothes for hanging around in, the way howies was a few years ago?? Howies have got very expensive and seem made in China mostly nowadays, and have moved away from the organic cotton. Any other companies making organic shirts and jeans???

Since when have Howies stopped using organic cotton?Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0

You are right about the organic cotton, though some of the trousers havent been organic, they all are on the website currently. But all the jeans and trousers are made in china too, and without getting into an argument about the rights and wrongs of china, i would have prefered something made somewhere else.0

Fair enough. I must say Howies do keep a little quiet about ethics though they give the impression they are hot on that kind of thing. Lots of my Howies stuff is made in Turkey.
Why don't you ask them? They will doubtless happily answer you
BTW I don't own the company, I just keep them afloatEmerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0 -
Yeah, me too, i could wear a different howies merino base layer every day for a fortnight, except that i wear them for weeks on end without them going in the wash!!! But they are so tempting when i see them to buy...
The move to production in China is an odd one, given that they ARE so ethically aware.0 -
They are owned by Timberland now.
Like their stuff but some of the prices are very silly.
For a Merino base layer, use my favourite local and very small clothing company:

Are Ground Effect in this category? I know they're not exactly tops mileage-wise...0

Ground Effect stuff is good, but i was thinking more along the lines of 'mooching to the shops', or 'tidy enough for work' rather than cycling wear. Ranch Sliders fit the 'mooching ' bill, although they DO make my arse look big in them.... :-)0
