Hi there
Now thinking of changing my deore V-brakes to some disc brakes after neraly killing myself the other day when out in the wet and mud.
I'm currently running lx dual levers with the brakes so these will have to go when i make the switch.
i'm thinking of going for the new SLX set up from shimano along with a set of 2008 SLX or even XT rapid fire shifters. What do people think??
will also need to replace wheels. Think i'm gonna go for a handbuilt set consisting of mavic 717 disc on XT hubs, These any good???
if anyone could suggest a better set up than this for under £300 please advise me

What bike is it for? The upgrades you suggest are all good value, good performers.0

One option is the wheel and brake kits from Merlin:

Then you'll just need shifters.
I assume your fork and frame are disc compatible?Boardman Road Comp '08

My bike is a modified claud butler trail ridge frame.
Marz MX Pro ETA
Xt front + rear mechs
Deore hollowtech 2 cranks and deore chain
easton stem, bars, seat post.
forks are disc compatible post mount i think and frame is IS mount. wheels at present aren't disc compatible which is the reason for a wheelset.0 -
Hey littleandy
Tried the link on merlin. What are the mavic crossrides like. They are offering 2007 XT disc brake set with dual controls shifter/lever and crossride wheels for £210ish. A bargain in my book but are they any good???????????????

I think it would also be worth looking at selling the bike and adding the budget to a new one. If dont fancy that (and i understand why) then your suggestions are very good.0
