Reflective stickers

Just given the bike a Sunday service, oiled the moving bits and dug all the chunks of glass out the tyres ( ) and it occured to me that at the moment it's a pretty stealth machine all in black - EBC courier race.

With the dark coming I was thinking about adding a bit of reflectivity. I've already got a decent light set but think some more reflective action would do no harm.

Wiggle do various reflective sticker sets (Respro etc) anyone tried these? I thought a few on the frame, cranks, mudguards etc may help - especially with side on visibility.

I prefer to 'wear' reflective gear instead of sticking it all over my bike.

Of course legally your bike should have wheel, pedal, front and rear reflectors anyway.

Respro sell a helmet band that seems decent.

  • Front reflector isn't a legal requirement, but it's still a good idea to have one.

At night your cycle MUST have white front and red rear lights lit. It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector (and amber pedal reflectors, if manufactured after 1/10/85). White front reflectors and spoke reflectors will also help you to be seen. Flashing lights are permitted but it is recommended that cyclists who are riding in areas without street lighting use a steady front lamp.

Where can one buy a rear reflector? They're not sold in Wiggle's "reflectives" section.

I've got front/back/wheel reflectors (no pedal reflectors as I use SPDs) a main front light plus a smaller flashing one, a rear light plus another light on my backpack but thought a little more reflectivity may be a good thing.

Just realised I'm sounding a bit paranoid!

Anyone know where the smallest available reflector can be bought?

I had some with sticky pads on the back in a pack at a council-organised cycling event. Surely bike shops have something similar. But is it worth bothering?

For reflective tape Screwfix have 5m of 2" white tape for £20. I thought of looking for red tape but decided that silver front and back would be fine.

I've been impressed by commuting tyres with a reflective strip on the side wall. I had some from Hutchinson (I think) a while back and I'd like to get some more of those.

At the Cycle show last weekend, the Knog distributor had a bike with a Frog light attached to the rear hub. It was pretty eye-catching while the wheel turned so I'm thinking of trying that myself.

I'd say so, if only for the time between when the your rear light spontaneously dies and when you notice it isn't working anymore.

If you want to keep that look, you can get reflective tape that's black normally and white/silver in car headlights.

Wiggle have it here but I picked some up on ebay much cheaper a while back.
