Hi all,

I'm sneaking over from the roadie forum to ask for a quick bit of advice from you commuters! This evening I am travelling across london from paddington to kings cross on my way to cambridge, with my bike. Rather than take the rube, I'll cycle across but just wanted to check how busy this road will likely be at ~7.30pm tonight? Is it pretty safe to ride there, or does anyone use a sneaky back route?

Many thanks

It's never a particularly nice road to ride down, but IME the cars are generally going in a straight line and there're no silly junctions.

I used to do Lisson Grove to Clerkenwell daily which covers most of this this stretch - iIts very straightforward to just head straight up the Marylebone/ Euston Road - there's a short underpass near Gt portland St which you should avoid and use the roundabout above instead. Watch out for buses (including the dreaded open top ones!!) pulling out esp between Euston and Kings x but you probably know that already!

  • Safe enough. Most of it is a bus lane with the benefits and problems that can bring. Watch out for getting cut up at the slip lanes at the Euston underpass. IMHO no problem with taking the underpass if you want (you'll hit 30mph on the downhill bit) much quicker than waiting for the lights on the top..

My advice re the underpass is simply based on the fact that you have no escape routes if you do have a problem....and you'll have to , as mentioned, filter back to the left when you're coming out
