What is it with people donning tights, shorts, jacket, arm warmers, gloves, skull cap in this kind of weather!? I saw loads of such lady boys today....

Are they cold blooded or something? Maybe they are those lizard people that David Icke goers on about.

I am still in T shirt and shorts and feeling quite superior about it. Nads have disappeared but c'est la vie.

Rolled up jeans and hoodie without any sleeves (rocky style) with fingerless mitts for me today. But when i arrived at the lab i was a bit smelly from sweating so much and figured i ought to MTFU so i took a liquid nitrogen shower...

Thats a fakenger look if ever there was one. High fives.

Still in shorts (baggies). Cold and raining this morning so legs were numb on arrival.

I was a little chilly this morning, so probably stopping topless riding from Monday until Spring.

I'm still in the shorts but have resorted to the long sleeved top. Whilst I could probably get away with the short sleeved jersey in the evening I think having the long one on keeps me warmer and I swear I work better!

My only basis for this assumption is I put in some really fast journeys this week on my return journey, both on days where I was wearing the long sleeved top!

Yup, I'm getting some deep v's for a fixed wheel, I'm going to start wearing a TdF cap and buy a messenger bag at some point...

But I'm in oxford so it doesn't really matter as there is basically no competition.

  • I was in long sleeves and a winbreaker gilet this morning. Still in the shorts though!

I begin to think gloves might be a good plan...
  • Hey LiT, how is your stuff from Minx?

I have a gilet from Minx and when I get too warm I like to undo the zip and let it flap about. Drivers overtake more carefully then for some reason.
  • Ooooh it's great thanks! Ta very much for the tip :D

Only thing is that the shorts I bought have 'HARLOT' written in bright red on them and aren't padded where I'd presumed the were... my bad!

Luckily most of my long-backed cycling tops cover the writing up.

But I was impressed with the gilet and the jersey.
  • Shorts and T shirt for me. Arrived over two hours ago and am just getting some feeling in my feet. My rule of thumb is that unless its below 3 degrees C I wear shorts and t shirt.

I am switching between tights and shorts depending on the conditions, still in an normal jersey though.

I know they look ridiculous but keeping my legs (esp knees warm) seems to stop any aches later in the day.

Tights today, after cycling home at 11am last night and almost freezing solid. I hope there'll still be days for shorts, though. On top I'm wearing my luminous windproof jacket and either short or long sleeved light top/t-shirt underneath. I'm often getting a bit hot.

LOL, I almost sprayed my latte over the laptop reading that :-D

For me it's the first 10 minutes of riding that is the worst in this weather as you need to get past that chilly feeling! Once your warmed up and going some then it doesn't really matter. Until it rains........

Twas a bit chilly when I went out earler so I donned the arm warmers til I warmed up. Kept the gilet on for the whole ride, did have to unzip it at one point.

A skullcap is a bit OTT tho aint it? A couple of weeks ago when it was still quite warm I saw a guy in a massive coat with full finger winter gloves on. I did think he needed to MTFU.

But arm warmers on a day like today? Na thats ok!

There's a guy down here in exeter to always wears a balaclava under his helmet - he must be roasting!

I must admit that I've just taken to knee warmers in the morning because I have 3 miles of hill to go up straight away and it's so much easier with warm knees :)

I remember Oxford - its where road rage on a bike was invented: either:
    i) trying to go around girlie students in long flowing scarves, 3-abreast on Magdalen Bridge, with a bus alongside me (seemingly almost every morning...), or
ii) racing my mate down the bus lane on Banury Rd to get the best pipe outside the buiding onto which the 'bikelok' fitted before work.
No shower so eau du armpit all day....

oh....and bare-knees riding this time of year is for those of us without arthritis...

im in a long sleeved top now bus still wear shorts, and still will be doing for a while yet, aslong as my hands and feet are warm then im not bothered how cold it is, will soon warm up, tend to cycle as fast as i can up the first hill so im warm when im at the top

I wore a lot less last year when cycling but I was fatter then! I'm finding the new slimline BUICK feels the cold a helluva lot more. So yes, I'll be out there with a skullcap under my helmet, arm and legwarmers and a gilet over my longsleeve jersey, and sometimes a jacket too. I wear gloves all year 'round, but the autumn gloves are thicker and warmer. Got some overshoes on their merry way here too. How can you resist buying MORE bike stuff though? Also, I defy anyone who's got arm and leg warmers to resist putting them on with nothing else and parading in front of the mirror.

That article suggested that knees should be covered at any temp less than 65 degrees Fahrenheit which is 18.3 degrees Cesius, thats actually a really nice day in the UK. That article is basically saying that except for the hottest summer days in the UK where the temp might actually rise above 18 degrees maybe as far as *shock* 23 degrees, we should be wearing knee warmers year round.

I understand the need to keep the knees warm but I think that saying 65F/18.3C is safe to uncover the knees number is a bit overprotective. I'd say you wouldnt really need yer knee warmers til the temp drops below about 50-55F/10-13C.

    But hey I'm no doctor!

Liquid nitrogen? Wimp! Liquid helium's the stuff, y'know (but has peculiar fluid properties so may not make a great shower).
