Looking for a lock and after looking through Abus and Kryptonite locks I still cannot find one that is light and strong enough for me to use regularly. Except maybe this;
Granit Futura 64 from Abus.

However I cannot find any reviews for it online unlike the 54 plus from abus which is highly rated but too heavy for my liking (1.7kg).

    For most security for the weight, I think mini u-locks like the Kryptonite Evolution (seems to be ubiquitous among bike messengers, who know a thing or two about bike theft).

    Mini locks have an advantage over bigger u-locks in that their small size makes it harder to lever them or use jacks on them. Of course, it also makes it hard to lock to an object, but a cable helps with this without adding too much to weight.

    But try before you buy, as they don't fit around the rear of some mtb's.

    I've got the Abus one, quite a meaty lock, not the lightest, but one of the best securiity wise.
  • Before buying a d lock, it's worth checking out the videos on this link

    it shows people opening them with a biro pen!! frightening! I don't know if kryptonite still market the ones with the tubular keys, but I certainly wouldn't use one now.

    Hah, no it wasn't, that fault was first demonstrated years ago... They were aware of it and still selling unsafe locks, just like most of the other manufacturers.

    Abus are pretty terrible for motorbikes, they hide behind Thatcham and Sold Secure but still make a £150 chain that can be cut with B&Q boltcutters. Completely worthless. They build their gear to pass tests not to deter thieves. To be fair I've no experience of their pushbike stuff but the way they do business doesn't impress at all.
