  • Yeah, I know! a mate has three that he uses for motorsport, but he only uses them for 1 week a year, so I get this one for the other 51!

Fantastic vids Manc Cat, and don't worry there's plenty more digging in the forest to do, we're only just starting

Delcol, most of it's fairly easy to find, the volunteer bit is the most difficult but it should all be signed up fairly soon, plus there's always my map

I saw the start of your new dig today. I only get 1 in 4 weekends off and the missus always wants to make the most of them. I'll try and make her bed ridden for the next dig day!!!

There's quite a few posts gone in at the trail heads and ends but no direction arrows in them just yet.

Where is the best place to start on this map please??

    Cheers.
  • there's a car park right at the very bottom of the trail on that map, but as has been said, there are no facilities there. If you park in Tosside, on the right hand edge of the map, there is a good pub with a bike wash and small cafe. The pub also does food. You can then cycle straight down the forest road for about 3/4 mile to join the loop.

Cool cheers, might check it out next weekend. Weather isn't looking good this weekend and I think my knee could probably do with another weeks rest  .

    Yep

Gisburn, all open. The first bit with the jumps is the unofficial downhill track, the bit with the giant berms etc is part of the new XC trail.

    enjoy.

  • went today for the 1st time after being out of the saddle for almost 10yrs, and only been back riding for 7 weeks just taking the local jaunt to rivi, today was punishing on the red trail  , took about 2 1/2 hrs after the map reader got us lost  , the black section is good fun especially the downhill bit with the massive banks left and right, so much so we did it twice :D , my only complaint is its to far into the run, all of us were blowing by the time we got there :(

    ellsbells1973 - Hi Rick!

We didnt actually get lost, we just needed a change to the planned route due to the no entry sign in the woods. The route we took to get the new section was probably a bit easier in the end (fire roads) so I'd say it was quicker than the planned route. Its a long ride though, plenty of up hill and I'm sure fitness played by far the most part in the length of the ride  . Fantastic ride though, in particular the black section (I bet its even better in the dry). Deffo up for 3 goes on that section next time. Also it will be good to do the longer route back next time, I believe we missed some nice new trails on the way back to the carpark. It will be alot easier when its properly signed anyhow, so we get the full 16 miles in. Congrats to all involved in making some great new trails :D I'll be back as soon as I can.

went up there with my wife on saturday morning...

    :D

she's still learning, so as a couple we didn't venture from the family route really, but couldn't resist doubling back to check out the little bit of blue trail nr cocklett hill. then promtly fell off on the gravel for going too slow, so the blue trail has drawn blood. doh.

we always go to the d&p in tosside on the way back tbh. i think cleaning facilities would be good, toilets would make my wife happy, but a cafe etc might well be overkill. i haven't seen anyone rock up without a car, and it's not far to the pub from there. It's decent grub that definitely fills a ride sized hole, and it's bike friendly. you can't get much better than that.

after bombing round the black route, it's not much manning up to drive 5 minutes to get something to eat now is it? ;)

oh, and massive thanks to all involved too btw.

There was a mobile butty van there on Sunday that seemed to have everything you could want after a ride (even bike equipment). Top cup of tea, and the rocky road flapjack thing was really good

From the Gisburn Forest MTB Trail Development Facebook thingy-wotsit http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=24782136080:

'The Fuzzy Duck Food Company' trailer will be in Cocklet Hill car park Saturdays & Sundays for a one month trial period. You will be able to get those emergency spares, essential energy boosts for the ride or hot/cold drinks and food. Any suggestions on what facilities are wanted please either post on facebook or email tuck-in@thefuzzyduck.co.uk

Not me, no personal interest / involvement, etc.

We had a couple of very nice coffees from the van on Saturday (actually it's almost rude to call it a van, it was much classier than that). The missus reported that they had a very nice cake selection and the man running it was very friendly, so she's up for going back, not sure whether it was the man or the cakes :?
