A BBC story today makes me glad I'm not on the buses/tube in Newcastle - or anywhere else for that matter...

It brings a new meaning to the phrase 'I had a sh**ty journey into work'.

What do you most miss about your old commute?

  • I miss the joy of integrated transport systems in London. I'd travel from Holborn to Liverpool St to get my train toward Chingford. Now, I could stay on the Epping tube and get a bus from Woodford but it was a) longer and b) subject to the randomness of the particular bus service. Thus the train was faster.

However, at least once a week (it would seem) I'd get off the tube at Liverpool St, go upstairs at Liverpool St and discover that all trains leaving Liverpool St heading my way were cancelled due to signalling, power failure or a death on the tracks. I'd ask myself "just how difficult would it have been for someone to have told LUL so the driver of the tube could tell passengers to stay on the tube or plan a different route! :( But no - far more fun to have a few hundred people get off - go up to the rail platforms and then come down again causing mass congestion and dangerous crowding (oftern then resulting in the tube platforms being shut

My bike commute home is slightly longer than my old public transport commute - a lot longer if you factor in checking tyres, locking up and getting showered & changed. But biking has many advantages - I know if I leave at x time I will arrive at y time as my journey is in my own hands. Oh I'm also always guaranteed a seat :D

This is why I avoid the Tube, and the North!

Thats a hell of a statistic - shake hands with anyone in Newcastle and there is a LIKELIHOOD you'll come away with sh!t on your hands!! The dirty Northern bast@rds!!!

Likelihood? It's practically a guarantee. All there is to do all day up there is either throw sh1t at each other or stand outside a football ground with no shirt on, drinking grim beer.

Have you ever looked at the windows on the tube closely? You'll see big greasy smears where people have been resting their heads. I saw one spot last week coming back from Heathrow that looked like someone had smeared vasoline all over the window!!! nice.
