Something odd happened the other day

On my route home from work, there's a downhill stretch about half a mile long, not steep but enough to get a good speed going, and wide enough to do so with parked cars and turning traffic about.

Cruised down there at 30mph the other day, and stopped at the traffic lights at the bottom. A car pulled up behind, then slowly crept forwards to squeeze in alongside me. Didn't fancy getting clipped by him when the lights changed, so I rolled forwards out of the way. He rolled forwards again, to get alongside, and the window wound down. Uh oh...

"Hey mate, I was behind you coming down the hill, you're a brilliant cyclist! How fast were you going!"

Made a change from the usual "get off our roads!" abuse. Cheered me up for the rest of the journey :D

Of course, what this means is that the rest of the time this motorist completely misjudges the speed of cyclists when pulling out. :(
