Brake Rotors - Manufacturers Recommendation

When a manufacturer "recommends" that you shouldn't use a 203mm brake rotor on their forks, do you think they mean it?!
Or is it likely that they're saying "Well, it will work but we can't guarantee your safety" kinda thing?!
I want to put a 203mm Avid rotor on my Juicy 3's, onto Rock Shox forks, to replace the current 185mm ones, but Rock Shox "don't recommend" using them. Just wondered how safe it actually was, before I go and spend some money?

what fork is it?
Most RS are fine for 203 so if they say dont i would not."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the Tora is good to 210mm"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

That's good enough for me then, cheers.
Actually, having re-read it, what it actually says is:
"185mm and 203mm
Avid’s larger rotor sizes (185mm and 203mm) are compatible with standard quick-release and Tullio forks but require a different caliper mounting bracket. Avid offers these brackets and they are available through your local bike shop
Note:Fork manufacturers often discourage the use of anything larger than a 185mm rotor on a standard quick-release."
So, it doesn't say don't do it.Winter: Moda Nocturne

Ok i see you are reading the disc makers info. If you look at the RS pages and look at the Tora (any) scroll down and all they say isMax. Recommended Rotor Size 210mm"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

BUT if you do go 203 make sure you check the QR often and that you use an enclosed one like a shimano deore one as they are less prone to coming lose."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
