Hello

Im new to the Mountain Biking scene, im looking to get into some Trail riding in the Hampshire area, for fitness and enjoyment.

Ive been looking at numerous magazine`s to get a good idea of what bike would suit me, but im unsure? should i spend a sensible £500 on a hardtail bike to see if i enjoy it as much as i think i will? or do i go for a full suss £1000 bike? of whish i quite like the Specialized FSR XC Comp?

Is a £500 hardtail bike going to restrict the number of rides im able to attempt, or do people feel it it will suffice for a introduction into Trail riding?

Any suggestions would be greatly apprecisted.

Get a hardtail to start with, maybe even second hand. Without meaning to be rude (and I may be completely wrong), I suspect there isn't tons of stuff in Hampshire that will warrant having full suss anyway. I rode my Specialized Hardrock hardtail pretty much everywhere, including very rocky stuff in the Lakes and black runs at trail centres like the 7 Stanes etc.

Its good for your skills to start on a hardtail too, as full suss makes you lazy in picking a good line. Also it will feel amazing once you have got some skills and confidence on a hardtail, then get a full suss. It feels like cheating, or playing a videogame! :P
