Try working in Chemistry outsourcing - Knowledge Gap? What knowledge gap?
PhD chemists in my field (organic) are ten a penny and get paid peanuts because of it.
It's nice that you recognise the skills required to get a PhD, aside from being a reasonable scientist - most employers outside of science, and a good deal within science treat people with PhD like lepers!
