Giant trance 2 vs Cannondale Prophet 2

Hi guys,
I'm moving up from a HT to FS. I do mainly XC riding at the moment, but am hoping a full susser will broaden my horizons a bit. I think I've narrowed it down to two (maybe three or four). First is the Giant Trance 2 2006 model which I have seen for £850 online, which is less than 50% of the original RRP. I've read good things about it, but I'm not going to be able to test ride it as nowhere near me has an 06 model in stock.
Next is the Cannondale Prophet 2 09 (1099) which has had rave reviews everywhere. It's maybe a bit more all mountain than XC, but at sub 30lb, it should be good for XC anyway. It has better forks than the trance, but the Trance has better components, mainly XT/X9. I've not ridden the 09 prophet but I will get a chance to next week.
Others that have appealed include the Specialized FSRxc and a few offerings from Kona (King Kikapu/ Kikapu Deluxe) which I have found at nearly half price for older models. Not too impressed by the spec on the Konas though to be honest. I've had a go on a Spesh and wasn't that impressed, but it was an older, basic model and wasn't set up very well so can't really trust that experience.
Any help is appreciated, especially from anyone with an 06 Trance.
