Thinking of upgrading to the above from my stock Giant MPH brakes.

Worth the upgrade? Any feedback welcome or suggestions on alternatives.

Also, any tips on where to get a bit cheaper are always welcome!!

7 if you want the bite point adjust. Would be a decent upgrade, as old MPH are 'closed' systems, heavy, and a bugger to bleed.

As my Giant MPH where/are my first hydro brakes, I did/do like the adjustment dial on them, so noticed the 7's had the adjustment also (which Is why I'm liking them)

Would having the bite point adjust make a good difference and be a benefit?

Ive found Merlin are doing a deal on a set for £169.95 here:
    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=812&categoryId=128

Is this a good price? Is there a better brake set for that price bracket?

It can make a difference, especially if you are used to it on older systems. But actual performance is similar to the 3 and 5.

    170 seems a good price.

your best bet would be either on here or on ebay if your looking to get them cheap, i got a bargain on ebay for my juicy 7's at £180 including a set of SRAM X.9 shifters. so really got erm for around £120.

An yes the 7's are a worthwhile upgrade, i upgraded from my avid juicy 5's and can make a great difference in contact and how i can tweak it to my liking.

i would say go for it.

Sounds like Im doing something right!

I'll put a WTD up in the Classifieds and see what that brings, had a look on Ebay, theres a few coming along, but if the auctions get near retail price, then Id always spend the extra for something spangly new!

  • if theyre anything like the juicy 3's, i'd steer clear. i hate mine, can't wait to upgrade. mine last about 2weeks before the levers need adjusting/they need bleeding again.

took my bike to my local bike shop to have them looked at (he sells GT's, most of which come with brakes from the avid range) and told me he has had nothing but problems with them from customers for similar reasons.

i'd consider some of these, http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... goryId=130 cheaper than what your looking at, but are bloody good. Bro has some on his stinky and they're superb.

The juicy 3's arn't very good must admit, but the 7's is definatly a lot better, and easier to bleed in my opinion, though i must admit the stroker trail are a really good pair too, they have similar bleeding methods to the avids and are good value for money too.

but in my case i'd stick to the juicy 7's, they are powerfull, easy to maintain and SRAM have super guidlines in showing you how to service their equipment making it very simple to do almost anything yourself.

Im liking the look of those, and price makes them appealing.

Maybe this wasnt an open and shut question after all!

Juicy 7s are damn good brakes! I've been using them for nearly a year and have never had a problem with them. Good lever feel, good power and easy to bleed (or at least if they are the same as the 5s)

Have posted a WTD for Juicy 7's for the time being in the classifieds to see if anything crops up (not holding breath) and will keep an eye on Ebay.

Failing that, will probably go for them next month brand new.

I like the look of the Hayes, but I dont think I can shy away from the adjustment feature.

a good descision i've had the juicy 7s now for about 2 weeks and each ride they are absolutly MINT :D

see if you can email a few ebay sellers, don't go for the powersellers they never go down on prices, if someone is selling them new taken off a bike or something try your luck on them

I have a set of Juicys 7's on one bike and some Formula K24's on the other.

I would recommend the K24's. They are much lighter, slightly more powerful, and less trouble. After a while Juicys turn into a pain for installing new pads.

I think the K18's are basically the same but cheaper.

Got myself a set of Juicy 7 Carbons via a response in to my WTD plea in the classifieds. Unused, unfitted complete with rotors and mounts, £160 delivered.

Probably didnt need Carbon, but then again I dont "Need" a lot of things!

Will let you know how I get on, should receive this week, fingers crossed.
