Got a budget of around £200 and looking for a warm, waterproof, breathable jacket for winter riding. Something to be able to cope with Jan/Feb on the top of hellvelan!!

Any suggestions? Whats the latest 'wonder' material?

Is the gore fusion any good? Big discount at wiggle on the '07 model!

  • I've just tired the this one as below at Evans yesterday and really didn't think it was any better than the Altura Night Vision Jacket they had.

For £64.99 the Altura Night Vision Jacket it really is a very good coat, and I got it from £49 from Merlin.

I'll report back once I get it but I'm sure it'll be good.

I have a Mammut soft shell that's warm and water-resistant but I use it with an Endura Laser when it's properly raining. eVent is a good alternative to Gore-Tex.
  • I have the endura night vision and I think it is a great jacket and very warm with a base layer on.

Only thing is that I have never had an other waterproof / windproof jacket so can't compare it to any other.
  • Altura Night Vision a very good jacket for the money but can get a little 'boil in the bag'
I prefer my Ground Effect Draft Dodger (although not waterproof, but so good it doesn't NEED to be waterproof..!) or Endura Venturi eVent.

Endura Event rocks by far the best jacket I have ever had and had a few...

Altura Nevis good for money but not very breathable.

Altura Attack good until zip failed and I the traded up tp the Endura Event

It is just superb however anything Gore realted will be excellent for sure as I am very impressed with the GORE gear I own.

    Good luck

Ok, so Enduro event to try on. Rather stay away from the Altura stuff.

    Any others?
  • I still think gore tex soft shell plus base layers. I've recently bought a goretex cross II
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Gore_ ... 360029178/ so far so good.
I know alot people think goretex is an expensive brand but I've had a jacket for 15 years which is still functioning well for walking.

Enduro Stealth. Softshell that fits like a glove and keeps the wet out and lets the sweat out. Expensive though at £150. Worth it!
