A group of us are planning a long weekend trip to LAkes in APril 2009. Looking at High Street and Helvelyn.
What we need to to know is tips on good places to stay. Looking for bike friendly (kind of obvious) good breakfast adn access to bar / pub.
All suggestions welcomed.
Many thanks.[/u]

Helvellyn is well covered by the YHA. You have Helvellyn itself, which is up the road from Glenridding. Good hostel, but the uncommitted often drop out of walking down to the pub! God forbid... You also have Patterdale. Never stopped at Patterdale to be truthful. Keswick is not that far if you use the old coach road by Threlkeld to cut over by Great Dodd/Stybarrow Dodd. Don't know if they are relaxing the curfew a bit nowadays. The penny has finally dropped on the fact, that they are not far off a B and B price by the time you have paid for the breakfast. Without the guarantee of not having to share a 8 berth room with a few strangers, who fart/burp and do whatever else annoys you at 3 in the morning. You do get to sleep on a top bunk though
Find below a link which includes YHA and Backpackers (which you do not need to be a member of and a basic breakfast is included in the price)

If you are not perturbed by the expense...Skelwith Bridge Hotel.0
