Phat tape vs MARSAS foam - numb hands
Hi guys,
I quite often get numb hands on my 20 mile commute to work and recently got some phat tape on my bars with gel wraps. I wondered if anybody has used the marsas foam wraps and compared them with each other. The gel tape combination has helped loads, but what do you guys think?

I had the gel under the tape on my Langster from new and have only just realised it was there! I though it was just a slightly thicker tape.
I have also experimented with double wrapping my bars with 2 layers of tape with equally successful results. I have quite large hands and find that increasing the diameter of the wrapped bar is what makes them more comfortable for me.

Fizik do a gel tape and strip set. Sticky preformed strips of gel for both tops and drops, then bar tape to go over. The tape I got with mine was a lovely flat black suedey type finish with micro holes for a nice retro look. No padding in the tape itself though, and the tape wouldn't stretch either. Very nice looking finish and not too bulky looking if appearances are important, or just replace the provided tape with some cheap padded tape and voila. Having said that, the Phat tape is supposed to be quite good, I believe as well as the tape, you can also get gel strips to go under, in the same manner as the fizik I've just mentioned.

As well as the phat stuff for under the tape, I believe you can also get phat bar tape

I fitted marsas tape to my audax bike a while agfo and found it flattened out very quickly. I was rather disapointed with it. I'm about to fit bar phat to it, but haven't tried it as yet.0
