Personally I wouldn't use a pressure washer full stop. But know a few who do and they tend to perform more maintenance around hubs etc than I have to.Whyte 905 (2009)

Get yourself down to your local cheapie shop and buy a hand pumped 5 litre garden pressure sprayer. The pressures are a lot lower than powered units and works a treat getting the crud off.1998 Marin Hawk Hill

people still get really hung up by pressure washers causing major harm to bikes. these days with most areas being sealed the issue isn't so big. if you know your way around a bike then you can use a pressure washer to excellent effect and avoid no'go areas. this makes bike washing generally faster and more thorough then by purely handwashing alone. some xc and cross races i enter are over 2 hrs from my home. by the time i've got got home it's too dark throgh the winter to clean it properly. i'd much rather get it clean ealry on the day at the event than leave it for a period of time. that, in my opinion, is also quite damaging to bikes.0

I found the hand-pumped units a waste of time, you just can't get enough pressure from them to dislodge mud. An electric one via the ciggy lighter is an interesting alternative though, not seen those.0
