Which specialized would be best for the forest of dean area? I currently ride 20 miles usally 40% fire roads, 60% muddy single track 3 times a week. im looking to buy either a enduro, stumpjumper fsr or fsr xc. These bikes all look similar could anyone tell me the uses for each. looking to spend £1000-2000 or £2000-£3000 depending on cash timing and eagerness.

FSR XC - XC bike with 100 or 120mm travel (dep on model & yr).
MBR did a first ride of the new FSR XC pro this month. Approx 27lbs and £1200. Very highly rated.

Stumpy - XC bike with better frame and ability to do a bit of DH & comfy enough for a long enduro - 120-140mm travel. Also avail as hardtail.
Most common Spesh FS bought. Can be relied on to do most things well.

Enduro - As it says. Bit heavier than the other 2. Has DH ability. 140mm + travel & not the best for XC.

Unless you want the lightest carbon frame models, you'll get a very good bike for less than £2k

    Now why just Spesh?

I'd go for a Stumpy FSR Expert or Pro - splendid bikes.

As Matt says above. I have had a Stumpy HT for 20 months, has been faultless. Because of this when buying a full suss, spesh was top of the list, ended up buying a '08 Stumpjumper Pro (very nice spec) for just less than £2k. With the brain shock it climbs very well, and descends even better.

BTW, I holiday in the forest of dean, any chance of showing me and my bro round next july/august time?

enduro, stumpjumper fsr or fsr xc

The Stumpy is Specialized's classic XC bike. It's now a nicely capable all-round XC bike, happy going up or down on most terrain.
The FSR XC was introduced as a cheaper full sus bike to sit below the Stumpy when the first decent sub-£1k full sus bikes came out. It's a simpler frame made of a cruder metal, but is actually really quite good. Most people who can afford it plump for the stumpy instead, though. They two lines are for similar riding styles, but at different price points.

The Enduro started out as a do-anything bike, and is still pretty much there. It's not a bike you'll enjoy climbing on, and, from what I hear, it's not the most exciting bike for tame trails, but it's incredibly capable. It's heavier and more wallowy than the other two bikes, but a lot more stable and confident.
  • R u a dough nut? Go with the stump jumer fsr. Top bike. We should start a forest of dean tour for others who dont know the area..................
Do illegal single track, or if you cant, make one!!!

    Scott scale 50 hardtail.
    Really want a full susser.

I know the service for the shocks on the Stumpy expert works out expensive.
and the brain is not everyones cup of tea.

    Why just Specalized bikes?

Take out a test bike then go from there

David Lund What coil shock you have? been thinking of sticking one on
my Orange 5 AM for just doing the Downhill sections.

mmmmmm Looking to go Forest Of Dean myself, a bit nearer than Wales
