Hi sorry to hijack.
I have a 9 speed as well, and would like to know when you know a chain should be replaced.
Thanks0 -

change my chain at 0.75% saves money in long run0 -
I've used SRAM PC991 chains on both my bikes for 2 years now, can't go wrong (apart from the odd frozen link).0

Depending on your budget I would suggest the SRAM PC951 or PC971.
Unless you are using an XO, X9 or XTR set up there is little reason to go for a PC991Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

I've just replaced my sram 971 with a 991 due to a damaged link and I don't know if its just me but everything seems alot smoother now.
Got mine from eBay for £18.00, brand new in original packaging.0 -
If you're wanting to keep costs down, I just got 3 KMC X9 chains from Merlin for £30. I've used X8s on my commuter for a few years and have never had any problems with them. They come with a reusable Missing Link as well.

Another vote for KMC chains!
I've got the KMC X9-SL, nice Ti-Nitride coated, so its harder wearing and smoother, so the wear rate is reduced.. How much its reduced is another thing, but it sure does look good!

There is only ONE mtb chain imo and thats KMC they are not the cheepest but the long term saving and the fact that they are damn near bomb proof makes it a no brainer !!!!0
