I have done a couple of Sportives this year, thinking about maybe doing the Evans Ride It North Downs mtb event in December. Anyone done one of the Evans rides? well organised, any good?
the day I stop dreaming of upgrades is the day die!

Yep, I've done a few of them (doing another next weekend in Great Missenden). They're well signposted and well organised - couple off drink stations as you do the course. Not a race as such, but it's good to reorganise the times when theyre published and see how you did

Medium length tend to be just short of 30 miles and last one took me 2:45. Quite a lot of road work linking some nice off-road sections... nothing too technical.

Haven't done a long route (which are about 5-10 miles longer than medium) as these are not signposted, but a sort of orienteering test collecting waypoints following a map - which I don't really fancy.

    Hope this helps.

  • Did the Stokenchurch off road ride in July very well organised, route really well sign posted and there was a drinks/mechanics station on the route. Signed up to do the Great Missenden on Saturday 19th...really looking forward to it.

  • We did the North Downs ride in the summer and it was excellent. Well organised, well marked out and some good hills to climb !! Hope the December event will be as good.
  • Sounds good fun - lots of people turn out?

Varies... look at the evans website for the results. Last couple I did there were around 100 people doing the medium route (most popular). Probably getting less now the Autumn / Winter is here

    Folk's,

I did the stoken Church in July as my first ever off road ride. Found some of the up hil bits a bit of a shock. Having said that it got me hooked, I would be doing the Great missenden one but have to work :(

    Regards

Did the Missenden one today and it was hard work... mud and hills. Fun though, especially the fast downhills (when you could get past the crowds  ).

I also did the Missenden one, medium route rather than the long route like last time, really enjoyed it. Excellent organisation by the guys/girls at Evans and there was even a bike wash at the finish. Have looked at their website and am planning on doing the North Downs 6th Dec and the Chieveley on 10th Jan both have the extra night ride where I'm hoping to give my new AyUps their first 'competitive' outing. :D
