Chamois Cream - Where do you put it?

So...does one apply it to the pad itself, or slap it on one's nether regions?

I have a pair of (cheap) Polaris Adventure Shorts with a "Monolith" pad, nothing like chamois leather. Is it a good idea to use Chamois Cream with these shorts?

Cheers guys!

I slather it in my groin, perineum and under the butt cheeks. I then wipe my hand clean on the pad.

Unless you have a hardened butt, I'd recommend using cream on any and every pad and on every ride.

for long rides I take a small pot of sudocreme in my pack.

Thirded. Although I've not heard of sudocreme(I'm in the states you know). What gives me the most trouble is the seams on cycling shorts. Not that I have a lot of problems with
them but it seems that the seams(  ) do on occasion cause a bit of a problem.
Easily fixed with a little "creme" right on the shorts.

How many hours are you riding for ? good quality seemless shorts and pad are just as important as cream.
We are all different , I ride for 6 to 8 hours without creams, I might just talc down before going out and that keeps everything running smooth. If you are having problems with chaffing or getting sore in some areas try a few different shorts and pads until you find what works best for you.

You should be washing them after every ride anyway

As per the instructions on the tube.... Usually, rub cream in to the pad, while its still damp/wet/drying.

Rubbing the stuff on your nuts is just nuts, unless you like that tingly, numb feeling.

Not all chamois creams have this anaesthetic action, of those that do, even applying it to the pad will cause the skin to go numb, that is it's purpose.

I have found that applying direct to skin ensures it goes where I want, with no dry spots on the pad where I've missed.

Saying that, I use sudocreme, a thick cream sold for babies bums. it doesn't soak into the pad like other thinner 'creams'.

I'm sure I replied to this thread yesterday! Maybe I forgot to hit the 'Submit' button. Read the tub, it says apply directly to the pad.
Ignore this instruction, as it's more fun applying it to your tackle/ undercarriage....
Especially if the wife applies it! But that can then delay the start of the ride.....
    Too much info, me thinks.......

  • Obviously I WOULD read the instructions on the tub IF I had a tub to read  ...but I haven't yet bought one.

So...next question...apart from Sudocreme, what brand of stuff do you guys use/recommend?

I use Assos Chamois Cream, works great for me (still use decent cycling shorts as well though).
  • Assos minty arse lard, applied directly to the barse, every time I ride a bike
