So, my Smart 1/2W rear light just arrived. A nice 'backup' to the two Cateye holy hand grenades and helmet mounted leds I use on my commute.

Or so I thought.

Until I switched it on, and (as you do when you get new lights, right? or is it just me) looked into the beam.

my head hurts. I can just see red flashes all the time. That was 10 minutes ago.

Holy Guacamole, this little fecker is fantastic.. :)

I think there's a valuable lesson there for you!

Handle with care :? , they are impressive .

In fact I'm a bit of a rear light pervert ... just received my cateye TL LD610 to add to my collection and I've been watching the pretty patterns all evening. :)

The bracket aint the best and it feels a bit plasticy , but it competes well with the rest/best.

The LD610 is my secondary rear light - I have the LD1100 as the main one.

When you get them both going in random mode it's just bloody silly. there are 11 LEDs flashing away (not mentioning the 4 pointing sideways!) so much, I think people with photo-sensitive epilepsy might be in trouble!

Have to agree - excellent light (as is the smart bspoke one my wife has) - but I find the on/off switch a little temperamental. Is it the same for you? Sometimes it seems to switch itself on :?

ive a couple of 1/2 watt smarts and I though they were ace until bought a dinotte 140L rear...owes you all. as far as I know there is nothing that comes close.

check out youtube for some demos
  • oooh...Dinotte...want. Not sure about that flashing pattern though, bit gimpy that.

I'm toying with the idea of using my Airbike Everlight (when it arrives) with some kind of cunning red gel thingummy over it. 680 lumens of rear light..lovely

Smart - I'm not crazy about the switch, could do with a more definite on/off than just a 'touch this bit very lightly with your finger and it will switch on/off'. Definite potential for hoying it in your bag at the end of the commute and finding the batteries dead when you dig it out 8 hours later..

I've not noticed it randomly turn on/off..but that's only 1 day down :)

I fear that a red lupine this may not be legal rear light, in the absence of a 19th century smog.

The Dinotte must be getting close!

The flashing pattern is quite good - it goes from bright to astounding in 3 quick bursts then a pause; kind of like "CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?.... pause .... CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?"

I've munched through lots of Cateye's - for some reason mine have tended to leak and/or the switches stop working. Although, for the avoidance of doubt, this may not be any result of the quality of the products and may be entirely my fault and should not in any way influence your purchasing decisions. My Smart 1/2 watt has proved to be pretty robust. Fear not.

It's the 'pause' bit which is the problem. I'm all for 'CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?' :)

Its a short pause - about 1 sec I would guess - during which the light is still on. I feel that the blink-blink-blink draws the eye, after which there is enough light (i.e. more than a normal LED) to see what it is that your attention was drawn to.

There are two other flashing and one constant mode anyway.
  • aahh..constant mode. Lovely.

Can the TL LD610 be mounted vertically, ie: running parallel to the seat post?

I've seen it done. In fact I was behind a guy who had done this when I was driving home on Monday night
