Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to MTB and have been riding around cleeve common outside of Cheltenham and wondered what Leckhampton was like.

I have heard good things but sounds as though its for the more experience rider.

Any one got been there and got any feedback?

thanks

as the others say its a bit interesting on the way down if you're new and used to cleeve common... give it a go if you want but take it easy. maybe go for a walk up there one day to check it all out?

you tried birdlip? a good midway point between cleeve and leckhampton. especially if you're more xc than dh. excellent trails over there. let me know if you want showing around. the trails mainly follow buckland road towards painswick beacon.

I am more of a road rider but I went back on my mountain bike today and over Cleeve Common, which I always find an enjoyable ride. I am also from Cheltenham. I have ridden over Leckhampton Hill many times (on and offroad) but never really down any of the steep trails (haven't had the guts lol). It has quite a variety of tracks though. If I'm going offroad tend to just do the easy route round the hill from Hartley Lane to Seven Springs... I once tried to do a jump on Lecky on my hardtail but that didn't really go very well - I still have the scar on my left hand!
  • cheers dirtbiker100. I may just take you up on that offer. Not sure when I next have a chance to go out but I'll get in touch if thats cool. I am mainly XC really, and not sure how cleeve sits difficulty wise but i suspect its fairly easy.

yeah i often ride up on cleeve but its only really for fitness. theres not that much interesting up there technical wise. I ride up out of cheltenham up harp hill. that usually gets the legs going ha ha.

I wouldn't mind another ride up birdlip way soon so let me know and i'll see what i can do.
Its not so hard on the fitness although theres one or two climbs that can test you, but theres a whole heap load of singletrack. flowing, technical, steep, shallow. lovely riding.
  • Hi All

Can someone tell me where I can park up with the car? I've seen people cycling (pushing) their bikes up the hill along the road, but where abouts is the start of the track?

Anyone got a map or reference on Google Earth?

    Thanks

(the useful stuff is in the 2nd half of the post.)
    daisybank carpark.

thats daisybank road and the carpark is unmissable if you drive in there. 50m after you turn into the road?
ride/push up the hill from there. explore really. head up the hill out of the left side of the carpark as you face the hill. theres a big straight track that leads up to a ruined building. as you face the ruins on the left theres a straight ride up to the general start of the DH tracks and theres a trail off to the right that leads round to the top of the hill (theres 3 tracks, left is STEEP but i know people who have ridden it, middle is the correct and the right leads to ??)

ok i got bored of trying to write it and i bet that made no sense so heres a link with some stuff i've put on.

also. be careful of cars following you home...

also an attempt at showing whats at birdlip:

and an attempt at showing whats at cleeve:
    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF ... 2&t=h&z=14

they're a bit crap but should show you the vague direction of some trails if you don't know the area at all
  • Thanks for that dirtbiker100!

    Good information.
