Long Cranks - advice needed!

I'm new to the forum, so hi everyone

I've been researching long cranks, and I'm reaching the conclusion that the ones I've got aren't long enough:
My road bikes have got 180s and my TT bike has some TA 185s, which have been just fine.
However, having looked at various opinions, it seems that I could work with something longer.

I'm 6'10" tall, and have a 40" inside leg, and according to the advice this puts me in 220mm crank territory.

I've spoken to my Esteemed Bike Builder, Paul Hewitt, and a suitable frame is being discussed.

I've seen 3 crank suppliers; Zinn and Colorado in the US, and Customcranks in Germany.
The German cranks look good, but I can't seem to raise a response

Does anyone have any experience of any of these suppliers, or have any advice before I go any further.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

    hello tall man 8)

  • Man that's sooo tall !! :D

My tallest client so far was 6'8". The guy was literally head & shoulders above me. Standing next to him made me feel inadequate (I'm 5'11"); I also felt like I was malnourished as a child or something. :(

There are a few cranks that go to 190mm, but this isn't going to be long enough for you...
I suspect you'll need to raise the BB height in the design of your frame to compensate for long cranks. Also I suspect that even a 46cm handlebar might feel too narrow...
  • Well, I did get a response from www.customcranks.de and it looks like there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

Rather than get a bike built around some cranks which may not be 'the thing' I've decided to try some 210s for my (underused) MTB, which is a custom-built Airborne with a monster BB clearance.
If these work OK then I can take it from there.

This could solve my problems of being dog slow all these years :? :

    Cheers!
