Took the plunge this afternoon and purchased my first road bike. I have been looking at buying a road bike for a few weeks and thanks to you guys I have finally done it.

I paid £400 for a Giant SCR 1.0 (2007) which has done very little mileage.

Here are the pics... sorry about the amount of pics but I'm in show-off mood!

That's a nice bike, thanks for posting the pics.

You'll need to clean the rust off that chain though

    Thanks for the compliment.

To be honest I think the camera flash has made the rust look a lot worse.
What do you use to clean the chain?

The left hand fron brake block needs realigning too.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Quanto mucho?£?

I think some yellow tyres (as said) and some fancy bar tape to finish it off :)

Now, back to the envy...

Thanks for that. Already gaining the benefits of posting some pics on the forum.

I'm totally new to bike mechanics so will probably get my local shop to give it the once over.

Loving the idea of yellow tyres and changing the tape!
  • Have to agree those tyres are the original crap. Buy something with Kevlar beads to save weight . Vittoria Rubino Pros gave me a livlier and smoother ride on my SCR LTD.
    100% ME!
Do you think I would be this bad on drugs?

Nice bike - looks like new. Yep - realign the brake block, but apart from that it looks dandy.

(top tip - when you tighten the brake block bolt, place a rubber band round the block at the rear of it so it lies between the block and the rim- that way the front of the pad toes in and contacts the rim first under braking, eliminating brake squeal.)

I just commented to the other thread so ignore that - this should fit you prefectly and it's got the gears for those deraded Pembrokeshire hills. Where do you live AAMOI?
  • :D Looking good - good job you bought it or I was gonna sneak up and gazump ya

Let me know what shoes you get looks like same pedals as mine !
(puts my bike to shame)

Give me a shout when you in Lampeter- mind ya I'd have major probs keepin up wid ya with that bike and my fitness

    Cheers enjoy

I wouldn't worry about the fitness, I'll take a few months to sort mine out. Been struggling with a broken leg for nearly 8 months and I like my food too much!

You mentioned that they are same pedals, what kind of shoes should I be looking at? I'm, not 100% what pedals they are.

p.s. glad you didn't decide to gazump me!!

Really nice bike, i'm comtemplating the Specialized Allez, Sport, and the Trek 1.2/1.5 - completely dismissed Giant as didn't like them - but that one of yours looks sweet!

You've got me wanting one now - just did a quick google and found it on this site

    BUT FOR £675.00

You did well mate at £400.00 - and as others have said it looks brand new! :)

I think I definately did well for £400 and it does look like new.

    I found it on Gumtree.

There is this one http://oxford.gumtree.com/oxford/78/25169378.html If it is still available it means he's had the add on for nearly 3 months @ £550 so would take near £400 I'ld have thought. You'ld have to check the size as Giant have a different sizing method. I know my Large is equivalent to 58cm.

Also found this which sounds "knocked-off" or trashed at £240. Says it a Giant SCR 1.0 but too cheap to be true.... http://www.gumtree.com/london/00/28993700.html

Let me know how you get on.
