Well, I know for an aluminium triangle/carbon mix they are dearer than other brands.

However i think i could live with this mix hen you take into account that you get a good Veleoe semi-bespoke bike starting at £1049.

I was leaning towards a C Boardman but NO compact versions.

Doesn't the entry-level bike come with a 50/36T? Are Halfords so averse to selling these things they wouldn't even swap a chainset over on the Team or Pro if that's what you were after?

I think everyone is doing an across the board price increase for 2009. I know Giant have done something similar. I'd expect the 2009 Focus and Boardmans to have a similar price increase

I agree, it's going to be across the board. Ritchey have increased their components by a faur amount.

If you're not tall, Wiggle still have Focus Cayo 2008s in stock.
  • The decrease in value of the pound against most currencies are to blame.
Stirling has fallen by around 40% ish this year against the Euro for example.
  • £ per Euro was £0.70 last December, almost £0.75p at beginning of January this year, and currently £0.7783p. Not a 40% ish rise

That's only £150 more than what I paid for the '07.
Taking into account all the current issues, along with the popularity of cycling, I'm not overly surprised.
They were never going to be cheaper.

Euro has increased 15% from this time last year.

I would buy a 2008 bike if you can find one you like and that is your size. Personally I would stay away from Boardmans. Quite apart from being ugly, they haven't had good reviews. It's just a retired pro trying to make a few bucks.

Bianchi's are still very good value, and don't forget that 928 is the highest range.

I just bought a Bianchi 1885 Veloce 08 for £765 - new from Evans with the LCC discount. That includes an extra £50 off due to dirty saddle and bar tape!

The looks are subjective, but the "retired pro trying to make a few bucks" leads the secret squirrel team. Not seen any bad reviews myself.

Search for threads on Boardman bikes on Bike Radar. I know about his connection to the r&d for the track cycling but I don't think that means his road bikes are technically amazing. At least they don't look like it and I haven't read anythin about original or special features. The Cervelo P4 and Felt Time Trial bike are examples of originality. They are both ugly though!

I think you'll find that's more to do with Halfords than the perceived quality of the Boardman bikes. After all both men and women's Nationals were won on Boardman Pros.

The Boardman TT bike was designed by Katsanis, don't know how much of an input he had the existing road models

Probably true. I haven't actually ridden won so cannot really comment first-hand, just on what I've heard. I do think it is odd though that the bikes are exclusively stocked at Halfords. Boardman should know that the discerning cyclists would not even think of going to Halfords to get a bike, let alone wanting to.

Having a brief look on his site, I can confirm that his bikes are indeed lifeless and boring, exhibiting no style or draw whatsoever. In addition the specifications are pretty poor, especially for the money being asked.

Didn't realise he actually didn't even design his TT bike and Katsanis did most of the work...another negative I guess.

I'll just stick with Bianchis I think!

Good luck on finding a bike you like.

Specs seem fine to me for the money. I'd receomend having a look at the bikes themselves, the shaped tubes do look quite nice.

Did you use the Cycle to Work scheme to get the discount? That was a really good deal!!!!
