My bike got stolen last week and I am now planning on getting a replacement. I've always liked to have a road racing bike but never could ownone due to price restrictions (poor student). I am now looking at e-bay for a racing bike and this one came up -->
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ht_730wt_0

I am not very familiar with the technicalities of buying a bike but at this stage can only afford around £100. My bike that got stolen is this --> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tourismo-20SIX- ... B000UC8CBW

I was wondering if anyone could advice me on whether I should buy the 80s road racing bike advertised on e-bay or whether my money is better spent on a mountain bike for £100ish. I really enjoyed my previous bike and so sad that it got knicked. life goes on i guess. Thanks so much in advance for any help/tips...

The big risk with buying from ebay is the bike being ready to ride without further expense repair. I once bought a peugeot from this seller that looked ok but it needed about £80 spent on it to make it roadworthy and a lot of the parts were difficult to buy, so the bike was laying around unused which was ok as it was a spare bike. Look for a newer bike that you can trust will be ready to ride.

Hi, sorry to hear your bike got stolen, looks like a very tidy bike on ebay i wouldnt say its a road racing bike, more of a town bike with drop bars, but if the rack and basket are what you need and 5 gears are enough and you can get it for a good price go for it. Otherwise i have seen new mountain bikes for under £80. Keep a bit to one side for a good lock this time. :D
