How do you keep your face warm?

I've got all the gear to keep my various 'bits & bobs' warm whilst out and about on my bike, but how do you all keep your face warm?
These past few mornings it's been so cold that my face has took almost an hour to thaw out after getting to work.
I've tried wrapping a scarf around, but it looks stupid and it doesn't work.
Thanks
Richie

Cold ? Cold ? You havent seen Cold yet !
If its really bad - try a buff. If its extreme - I'll have one over my head and ears, and another one round my neck and mouth.
If its colder than that - its probably icy - and I dont ride in ice.0 -
go to the gym0

Yeah, a buff is what you want.
I generally keep mine around my neck and sometimes up to my chin if it's really cold.I'm left handed, if that matters.0 -
polar buff round your neck up over your face and back of your head...toasty0

Hey there,
I used to have a proper balaclava (SAS, IRA style). They will keep you warm in all conditions and are usually made of wool and are way cheaper than cycle specific stuff. They're not so popular now that people are so scared of terrorists.
There is also the problem of getting your glasses on. II think you can get ones that don't cover the nose, which look a little less terroristy (sic) too.
By the way, it might seem like I'm trying to be funny with this post, but I'm not.
Cheers

Or
Slightly more expensive, but more sports orientated. You could still get your glasses on.
The website describes it as
"A 100% silk balaclava with flat seams for a comfort fit (great for bank jobs). "

Facial hair also helps. Big ride tomorrow, so not shaved since Thursday.0

^ those aren't breathable enough for on a bike though - they get really damp (and then cold) around the mouth if you try and breathe through it.I'm left handed, if that matters.0

The bank-robber one? I was also thinking that. I think I'd give the SAS one a shot, but getting the glasses on could be a pain, and you don't want dirt from the roads getting in your eyes.

I used to do my paper round in one of those when I was a kid, that was until one of the pensioners complained after I'd scared her half to death. Who did she think was coming to her door at 6am with a bright orange paper bag!?0 -
Buffs are great. You can easily drink with it on and no probs with glasses.0

I use a couple of buffs. One on top and one round my neck and chin.
I've tried face masks like the Respro Bandit, but it takes a bit of getting used to and can leave your face just a sweaty, slabbery mess0 -
A decent balaclava is great for keeping the cold out. Imo better than a buff which I used to use on a motorcycle.
Assos and Vangard amongst others, both do good ones.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
So, if I buy a buff how do they stop up and not fall down around your neck again? Is there some way to tighten them?
I've had a quick look on ebay and there's hundreds of them. I don't want a poncey one, looking for something with skulls on, or that kind of thing.
I've seen some where when you've got it in place it makes your face look like a skeleton's. Don't know if that's a buff or not, but it looked good.
Cheers

I know you can get neoprene face masks for skiing. Wouldn't let the cold in, but you'd look a little silly. Or perhaps a little sinister :shock:0

You can try smothering your face with vaseline which does protect the skin. Other option motorcyle silk balaclava. Fit well for under helmet. Thats what I use with no problems. Not that I think it is cold enough yet.

The whole buff is stretchy - think a thick pair of tights - so it stays basically where you put it.
The come with instructions of different ways you can wear it - althouh I tend to just put it around my neck and move it up or down depending on the temp.
Millions of colours too - I have a plain black one.I'm left handed, if that matters.0 -

I use these which are very good and keep neck warm and easily removable when warm.
