Thread for Items you Wouldn't Recommend?

Is it worthwhile having a thread for items (cycling related) you wouldn't recommend to each others? I've found that most reviews I read now are only ever glowing (scared of losing advertiser revenue?) and not really worth reading.

Edit - try to provide some justification as well.

    The airzound air horn.

I've heard 50/50 reports on the airzound, some love it , some say it's a pile of garbage .... any other thoughts :?:

I love mine... Really makes a difference being able to give a parp at someone every now and again. In terms of quality it's a bit plasticy but has worked great for me for 6-7 months - just pump it up every Monday morning, it's normally run out by Friday...

The device is occasionally able to tell you if you are on a hill or not, but that's about it.

Yes, I confess to being quite gullible that time.

It would be cool if it worked. It does not work.... I did get my money back, though.

I just think it is a waste of time - mainly because if you need to use it you should probably be braking instead!

Exactly what I thought when I hit the link. My lungs and legs tend to let me kinow. In fact it is odd how many roads in my area that I thought were flat (on foot) I now know are not!

I'll second this one. Just seemed a waste not to make use of the buttons on my STI levers. However now my head unit was stolen along with my MTB earlier this year I won't replace it. Virtual cadence??? Why???

Conti "speed kings" NO! NO! NO! - every ride resulted in at least one puncture even on grass tracks, expensive, light weight trash.

Altura Night Vision full length waterproof trousers. Yes they are waterproof, so you end up getting soaking wet from your own sweat anyway. Now I just suffer the short term soaking from the rain and feel more comfortable. Remember, your skin is waterproof!

Actually like their night vision gear tbh. I think its more suitable for when you cant go too fast because its really peeing down imo. :)

Generally I like it too, I've got some gloves and the jacket but fully water proof trousers is a step too far when commuting!

It's cadence. If you don't want to use it, don't. I like it, you don't have to wire up another set of sensors on your frame and crankarm. What's not to like. Haven't had any problems with mine.
Now Mavic Reflex rims. Well, don't get me started.

Well, yes, one can see immediately that there is nothing to hook the bead of your tyres into. What a waste of time. :(

What else is wrong? Braking surface doesn't last long? Rims crack at the eyelets? "Mavic" is the French for "disposable" - they should have mentioned that at the shop.

There could well be legal issues with a thread of this nature.

For example if you say X product made by ABC is not worth the money, the website organisers ie BikeRadar may find itself being sued for defamation by ABC

I am sure there is a disclaimer somewhere stating that the opinions expressed by contributors do not reflect the opinions of the website publisher host etc. Otherwise there would be lawsuits flying round.

Spot on, magazines and websites are driven by advertising, they really are running scared when it comes to writing reviews.
I have noticed that Wiggle used to offer user reviews, but that has now stopped, probably for similar reasons.

I've got some DHB full length tights for those days, soooooooo much better. Much more comfortable to ride in, though you do look like a transexual when you get off the bike and walk from the bike park to the office. Oh well, very little in this life is perfect!

Sadly, for Future publishing and other webhosts such a disclaimer does not prevent the publisher being held liable for what is on the website!

I've never seen anything other than glowing reviews of products on Wiggle, but then again I would not expect otherwise

    a) Why would Wiggle publish reviews slating products they are selling
    b) Why would Wiggle stock "crap" products

Are you trying to build a client base for spurious lawsuits ahead of entering the private sector, Spen? Its a shame - we wouldn't see you on the forum so much, because you'd have billing targets to meet.
