I know the racing season has only just ended, but I'm looking to purhase some new timetrial wheels for next year (helps with the motivation over the winter whilst on the turbo's) - my budget is capped at £1k (don't tell the wife!).

I'm looking at HED's, Planet-X and the new SRAM's (http://www.thebikemarket.com/index.php? ... t&catId=63) - and any other manufacturer anyone wants to recommend!

I'm only looking at clinchers - I've done my time on tubs!

Also what are the views on rim depth, as I mainly compete in "lumpy" triathlon courses - hence I was considering opting for a 50/60 front with a 80/90 rear?

Any views???

My answer will depend on how much you weigh and how fast you currently do a 10/25.

    I weigh 78kg.

    I currently post 10's @ 22mins and 25's @ 59-60 mins.

In triathlon events, I'm posting a 25 time around the 1:02 marker - however these courses are not the usual drag strips - they tend to have a hand full of steady climbs.
  • Okay, well if you really want to spend all your budget, but dont want to go over, you can pick up Reynolds wheels and Corimas for just under a bag.

If you really want something nice though, save and hide some money from the mrs and go for zipps or lightweights..... although, at 78kg, you'll be over SOME of Lightweights weight limits. Im over all of them, so I dont bother looking, but my Zipp 404s laugh at my 13.5stone frame and my 20:08 10TT pb times. Theyre also good for climbing! But at my spec, I dont do much of that!

In my opinion though, a second hand set of Zipp 404/606's (Clydesdales if you can find them) or a set of Dalkiia (dont laugh, theyre actually really good for £550!) wheels would be the way forward, depending on what your current wheels are.
Heds are fine, but they just lack the turn of accelleration you get with the Zipps... and given recent price increases by everyone, HED's are expensive for what they are. Also, when I had a set a year or so ago, getting spares for them was a total bar-steward!

If you go for something like the Dalkiias, you can spend £20 on flowers for the Mrs and £430 on a 10day training camp! She doesnt give you grief, you get faster and you get somethign shiney.
