Where Are the Motorists?

i've noticed that since the schools have gone back, the volume of commuter traffic has NOT increased significantly on my route.
When I set off, I used to have to pick my way through queuing traffic in Ilford and regular stretches on the way into Centtral London. Bow flyover used to have queing traffic on it- now I can ride through Ilford not seeing traffic queues and hget over Bow Flyover without seeing a car.
apart from some congestion at Aldgate caused by the new road system not having got timing on traffic lights right, there is no congestion. Even the Embankment from Tower Bridge to Southwark Bridge has virtually no traffic where as before it used to be solid lines of traffic.
The rest of the Embankment is the same.
It seems to be less private cars, less white vans and less larger lorries etc.
Conversely colleagues say the tube system is noticeably busier.
The rising fuel prices and the credit crunch seem to be having an effect

Let's hope so, but I must say I have seen an increase heading East since the schools went back though. Even the credit crunch can't keep frickin Chelsea tractors off the road!Roadie FCN: 3
Fixed FCN: 60 -
The traffic on my commute has increased noticeably since the end of the summer holidays. I try to miss the worst of the morning traffic by leaving home c.0630. On Wednesday this week I had to take the nipper to nursery and consequently didn't get on the road until 0830. What a difference - it was open warfare on the roads! Next time I draw nursery duty, it will be a working from home day....0

Maybe now that Boris is in charge the traffic light timings and sequences that Ken had deliberately had altered to impede rather than assist traffic flow, have been corrected.
Can I be the one to say that it's fewer cars, fewer vans, fewer lorries? No? Ok.0 -

It was noticeably quieter today on my commute - but that might just be because it is Friday. The roundabout by Lewisham DLR was almost empty (actually makes it a little less easy to cross, as the traffic was flowing - slower but safer to get across the roundabout when gridlocked) and Surrey Canal Road was barely tailing back - since the end of the holiday period, these have both been chocka.
