Switching to Flats

After a few low-speed spills where I couldn't get my foot out fast enough I've decided to switch to flats.
I've settled on a pair of Five Ten Impacts and some DMR V12s (I'm not a weight weenie so I won't need the mags).
Any ideas where's the cheapest place to get these from. I'm seeing £70 for the Five Tens and that's too much for me to swing it with the missus.

I got the wellgo MG1s off a guy on ebay for 25 squid, the impacts stick to them like shit to a blanket.0

The Five-Tens seem to be expensive whereever. A cheaper option might be to get a pair of old trainers resoled with the same tread as the Five Tens, they do it here for £35 plus £8 p & p: http://www.feetfirst.resoles.co.uk/cycling_mtb_shoe_repair.php A mate got his done recently and I think he was quite impressed.East Anglia Biking Collective!

Don't tell the missus.
The Five tens are well worth it, very grippy and offer much more protection to your feet and toes than any skate shoe.
I'd avoid the V8's, they are too small for anyone with normal sized feet.Intense Socom

Buy these for half the price, according to Sonic, Wellgo make DMR pedals. My MG1's have been superb.0 -
FiveTens are worth their weight in gold when it comes ot flats.
If you've got feet of about size 10 or more that are slightly wide then go for Outland Alloy Pedals, the ones with the sealed cartridge bearings, same pedal as Gussett Slim Jims0 -
Loads of excellent advice. Seems like I can save money on the pedals but not on the shoes. I'm a small 10 Steve_b77 so I don't reckon I'll need the wider pedal.0

Wellgo MG1's are great, £25 from ebay and super light.
I have these shoes: http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... goryId=136
Are grippy and a bargain. Yes they look a bit special needs, but once dirty aint so bad!!
[As a side note, i did the same, bought all this because i lost confidence in my spd's due to a crash. A go on the red route at Dalby in the the above and i went home and fitted my clipless back. The pedalling power and feeling at 1 with the bike totally outweighed the scary thoughts of not being able to unclip in time.]0 -
Try Chain Reaction Cycles.com
They had the Five Tens in at about £60 or the Marzocchi shoes for £65.
I've got the Marzocchi and are absolutely fantastic!!
Matched with a pair of Crank Brothers 5050xx.
However the white Marzocchi's look mucky v.quickly!
But easy to clean.0 -
You won't go wrong with 5.10s, they're great.0

True. Have a look here.0 -
Wellgo make Slim Jims too. Go to the Wellgo Website, and look at all the flat pedals. You'll see most your favourites. Take the code down and go on a internet hunt and get the same pedal cheaper.0
