17'5 is overweight (unless you are 6 foot 10). I am 15stone 6 and I am 6foot 6 and whilst not overweight I am definitively not skinny.

Yes it's heavy but not THAT heavy.
And of course there's BMI too - I just push into the "overweight" region (5'8", 12 stone) yet have less than 10% bodyfat. It's mostly this useful stuff called muscle.

Ignoring the detour into BMI's and it's merits as a classification tool for the NHS, TPE, have you asked someone to cycle behind you they might be able to see if there is any massive flex when you turn right. If you do end up buying some new wheels, I can heartily recommend telling the other half that you got a huge discount on the wheels due to your haggling skills whilst never ever divulging the true cost - or have them delivered to work and switch them over before you get home - that way she'll only notice if they're a different colour... (or as in my case she works with you and signs for the heavy package from Wiggle... DOH)

BMI is the medical equivalent of a crayon. Very blunt. I also find it amusing that medics can't quite bring themselves to regard it as "density".... nooooo its more complicated than that.

    Really, it isn't.

There was a tool on the radio the other morning (which I wasn't listening to as I cycled to work) proclaiming that 80% of UK adults were now overweight, not the previously estimated 50% or whatever.

His methodology? I took two measures of obesity and uncluded all people who fell into either. He should be muzzled, and/or sent back to university. What makes me most irritated is that he probably earns a 6 figure salary for coming out with this tripe.

    Should this be in "Rants"?

Always - it was a mickey take out of the double posting...

Don't worry - I'm a lifelong exercise/gym nerd so am well up on how silly BMI is, but it's a lot easier to work out that bodyfat %age so I guess that's why it's overused.

TPE - did you get any joy at the Bike show?
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

    What would Thora Hurd do?
