Presently i am catching the train into work, and cycling home. This works out at approximately 15 miles a day, 5 days a week.

If I catch the morning train I leave home at 7:20 for the 7:33, get into work at 8 and am at my desk for 8:30.

I finish at 5, get onto the bike at 5:15 and am at home for 6:15 ish (depending on traffic / weather / etc)

There is ALWAYS a prevailing westerly wind and I cycle WEST to get home

If I cycle IN to work I leave at about 7 to get in for 8 and am at my desk for 8:30, I then leave at 5... etc, and the train is at 5:45, gets me home for 6:10....

So, am I chickening out if I cycle in a few times and take advantage of the westerly wind then catch the train home? Or am I varying the commute a bit to keep it interesting?

Er, I've been cycling for 25 years and I still f*****g hate the wind with a passion, apart from when it's behind me, which is rarely.

Give me snow, ice, rain, hail, hot lava rocks and I'll be happy, wind, grrrr....

Isn't that one of the laws of cycling that it is ALLWAYS blowing a head wind?

will you be allowed on the train before 7.30 in the evening?

cycle both ways but the wind wont help you much... it never does :x

Gawd - what a bunch of cynics

Take a look at the weather report if you live anywhere in the midlands and count the number of times the wind comes from the west... then you'll see what I mean

As to both ways - I ain't that good yet. I am throwing one two way journey in a week, but it kills me on the day (actually, more the day after) Although the ride in IS fun (with the wind assistance  )

I may chuck a couple of rides in each week just to vary the commute (there's not really a choice of routes for half the journey so it's nice to have some variety)

Honestly, the wind will always be in front of you - or maybe that is just because I ride so fast ...

At the moment, it feels like all the wind is coming from the north....

It is chanking in Edinburgh this week.
