Bike shops/frames

Hi all,

A colleague has asked about having a titanium frame built or getting
a titanium bike. He has come to me but as I don't frequent that price
bracket I have come to you. He's looking for a frame in sub £800
range, preferably built to his size rather than off the peg.

Suggestions for shops with excessively good prices, which he will
travel to, or with a web presence and builders who are able to work to
'reasonable' costs gratefully received.

He is in the London/North London area but that's not a problem to location just info.

There was a place in Norfolk I looked at some years ago, I think the
name was something to do with women on bikes but they held a mixed and
good priced stock, the name has gone though?

It's very unlikely that you'll find a custom Ti frame for "sub £800"

Fatbirds.co.uk do good prices on Sunday and Van Nicholas
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Google XACD. Custom frame for half that budget I think.

There's a place in Hurstpierpoint that does Ti frames. Can't recall the name.

I've also got a contact for a company in China, if you fancy a gamble. Mind you, a friend of mine who does triathalons has used them. If you're interested I'll dig out a link.

Is that XACD as listed by Cougie? Other wise yes please and any feedback from your friend re ordering and build.

Sniper - I'll get back to you. Stuff is on my work email and the server's playing up. Hopefully I'll be able to get it tomorrow.

AFAIK Enigma, Sunday and Van Nicholas all offer a custom service, but I doubt you'll get anything under £800. I've bought a custom frame from XACD and it works out at around £400 - depending on the spec of the frame - worth considering if you know exactly what you're looking for and not bothered by things like warranty.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Sorry Sniper,
Work email is out of action until Monday - I'll have to wait to get hold of the Chinese ti frame details.

In the meantime, have a look at this!

  • Hi Sniper

    I can get Ti-Frames for sub £800
My frames are made by the same factory who makes Van Nicholas frames and used to do Airborne. I have some new stock coming in next week if your friend would like to see them

    Best regards

I checked out feedback and its pretty good. I've seen their folder which is functional but not as elgant as you might think. Prices are amazing - if my CAD2 broke I'd just get a frame from china and fit all the parts.

    Sniper,

    xacd.com.cn

is the company used by my friend. He's had a couple of frames from them. He says make sure you send detailed sizes and specifications. He's been happy with them.
    Best,

  • Thanks to all for your replies. Details have been passed on to friend who is impressed by XACD prices and the feedback in forums pointed to by Google.
