Im looking to upgrade my current steed next spring to either a Specialized Allez Elite 2009 or a Cannondale CAAD9 105 Compact 2008. Both have 105 groupset, though Im a bit stuck between the two, anyone got any experience of either? Yes, I am going to try them out sometime, just would appreciate a little advice.

Thanks a load!

The CAAD9 is one of the best Aluminium frames available.

So a better choice than the spesh? Also, why does it have the liquigas logo's on it, is it just a sponsor thing or do the leekygas riders actually use this bike? I know you can get it in other colours but the green is pretty individual.

Liquigas don't ride CAAD9s, but Cannondale would like the possible purchasers of a CAAD9 think they do, giving the impression that it's "pro level".

It's not really "Pro level" but I'm sure with the right kit bolted on it would hold it's own quite well against the true "Pro level" (ie more expensive) framesets.

  • I've had a caad9 for few months now, I'm a complete noob btw. I got the 105 and am really, really enjoying it. The bike is worthy of abilities beyond mine but all I can say is that I look forward each chance I get to get out on the roads on it. Can't give you a more technical review due to lack of experience, all that I can say is that I don't regret the purchase one bit. Maybe not the vfm of some makes of as exotic as others but it's the one chose toI spend my hard earned on and love it. BBQ black is the one to get imho.
  • I was recently looking at similar bikes and decided in the end on a cannondale synapse carbon 105 2008 because it was on a good deal . Might be worth a look for you (evans have then cheap (I got mine from leisure lakes, manchester). I also looked at the liquigas colours and decided against them because all replicas go out of date fast as the teams change sponsors etc.
Both are good makes, but IMO cannondale have the better frames

Cannondale gets my vote too. You won't be disappointed one bit.
    Every winner has scars.
  • I'm a long term Cannondale fan. Currently have a Six13 road bike (so light!) and a 105 equipped cyclo cross bike I use for commuting. Both excellent imho.

Actually I also have a Spesh mountain bike and that's fine too.

    But Cannondale for preference.
