hurrah for traffic wardens!

Yes we don't often support them but today i say a big cheer for them....on the way to central Bristol today I cycle the main road from the east side.....and in the last 6 months a brand new spanking "showcase" bus lane has been built. A bus lane is great so long as motorists respect it ....and don't park their obscene gas guzzlers in the path of the buses when the lane should quite clearly be kept clear. So on my way to work this morning at 7.30am it was fantastic to see the local traffic warden ( I don't think they call them that now?) sticking those lovely yellow tickets on a couple of 4x4's that were blocking the the bus route. It made me smile and let's hope a timely reminder for those who would block the passage of the bus....and the cyclist

They've just upped the prices for leaving you car in the secure compound with removal on the back of a lorry in Bristol today. Now looking at £150 tow away + £20 day storage and the compound is on the outskirts of Bristolso that adds £4 bus fare or £15 cab fare to the total.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I'm moving to St. George so I may see you on this route from time to time. Wonder if that bus lane has actually improved the journey in by bus. My ex used to live out that way and the bus into town in rush hour took ages.
I believe traffic wardens are now called "Parking Attendants". Makes sense I suppose, their job has more to do with illegally parked cars than 'traffic' which is by definition moving... but they'll always be traffic wardens to me!Welcome, to my bonesaw!0 -
I have no problem with responsible parking attendants - they do a sh*tty job and when done properly helps a LOT of people.
I work for a company that provides IT support for local councils and I can see the photos taken by the PAs. You would not believe some of the ridiculous places people dump their cars and then get shirty when they get fined!Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

I'm not sure where you're talking about, what's the name of the road?
Has anybody else noticed that cycling is really taking off in Bristol lately? I actually played the Game with two other riders this morning - a first as I'm normally lucky to get a sniff of a scalp."Impressive break"

Never had a problem with traffic wardens/parking attendants. They are only doing their job.
Then again I always park where I should, pay for my parking, and arrive before the ticket expires...not rocket science is it?
OK I've see them waiting round the corner at 11:56 when I had to be away by 12, but if I was there past 12 I would have been parked in the wrong place at the wrong time.
If you expect them to be there waiting for you when you get back to your car, you make an effort to get back on time...It's a nice feeling when they aren't....and if you do find them there waiting, you can drive off with a smug grin!0 -
I got done bang to rights once when I stayed out for lunch much longer than anticipated. When I realised I ran to my car and sure enough, the dude was finishing my ticket. I wasn't angry (with him, anyway), and my reaction was even more positive when he told me that if I left the ticket on the car I could basically stay parked there the rest of the day without paying another penny0

Its £60 (reduced to £30) up here. About proportional to salaries I should think.....
Hardly ever enforced though, as far as I can tell by the number of cars which beep me out of the way when I'm cycling in one.
Funnily enough, they've not installed many red light cameras either. They'd make a mint.0
