Frame Failure

I had a wonderful commute in this morning....hard slog into the wind, but the thought of getting it behind me on the way home kept me going. Until, everything went all spongy and weird. Pulled up, thinking the steerer tube had snapped (dunno why), looked down to see a big gap in my down tube  . It took a few moments for the penny to drop that my down tube had broken clean through. I've never had a frame break on me, and it was just so unexpected.

My bike's a Genesis Vapour, I've only had it short of 6 months and only done 3000 miles on it, so it really was the last thing I expected. It's been creaking quite a bit the last few days and I just couldn't find where it was coming from...now I know, I guess.

Anyway, the point is - does anyone know of a contact email for Genesis Bikes? Their website has nothing, I can't find anything when I google...even Ridgeback's website won't let me contact them; the R & D dept. are all away in Sept. apparently, so won't be accepting emails. I've taken the bike back to "On your Bike" in London Bridge and they're going to replace the frame, so that's taken care of. I just wanted to contact Genesis as well, to let them know what's happened myself.

Any help gratefully received - I'm stuck with a sit up and beg hire bike from On your BIke for now :( , and want to get this sorted as soon as possible. Cheers[/img]

Christ, I was thinking of getting that disc road bike from those guys to replace my tank.

I think you have to register with the website. I also suspect that they will simply refer you to whoever you purchased it from.

Good luck and let me know how you get on - if the warrantee is worthless I may think again and persuade my bank manager to let me have the Fixie Inc. one for twice the price!!

Well the warranty is not with Ridgeback it is the shop that supplied the bike.

and that is who you should contact in the first instance.

    Glad you are Ok.

Any pics of the frame ?
  • I've got a picture on my pc desktop, but dunno how to post it. If you have a look at any pictures of a Genesis Vapour, the breakage happened about an inch below the gusset at the junction between the down tube and head tube (about 6 inches down the down tube). Clean through, almost like someone took a chainsaw to it, as a mate said when he saw it.

I'm still waiting to hear back from a mechanic at "On your Bike"....what else they can tell me, I'm not sure. I already know the frame's buggered and needs replacing  .

Trying to find a contact email for Genesis has been a trial. Eventually managed to track down an address at Leeda - a subsidiary of the company who own Madison and so Ridgeback/Genesis. I've just written a stiffly worded email to them, so again, I'm waiting to hear back. When I get some news, I'll post what's happening[/img]
