What tyre for Coed-y-Brennin?

Got a trip planned for the Coed-y-Brennin and surrounding area and am not sure my Conti Speed Kings are the right tyre.
I'll be riding a hard tail so will not be going mega fast on the down hills, but not overly cautious either. I'm thinking I'll need something good for wet rock (as that's the last place I want an off) and OK for loose and roots. I'm prepared to have a tyre that is poor in mud in order not to compromise at all on the wet rock performance.
Any ideas?
I've looked at the Maxxis High Roller, not completely convinced it will hold well on wet rock despite its popularity - can anyone vouch for it?

when i did Coed-y-Brennin i was running Panaracer Fire XC 2.1's on my hardtail. worked perfectly for me, I can't recomend them enough.0

That's what I ran last time I was there many years ago - great all round tyre, but I found I got a lot of snake bites on the rear when doing rocky descents.0

Maxxis High Rollers here - bought with wet rock in the lakes in mind, and they work fantastically well. They are heavy though, my 2.35s are 1.2kg each apparently! :shock:0

Hmm well I read it on another forum and the only 2.35 high roller on the weight weenies site is 1.2kg - does say from 2002 though. Seemed quite a ridiculous figure - I didn't notice them being especially heavy when I put them on.

For a pair they will be 1.2 kg or more. Scary isn't it :!:
Anyone tried Kenda's - the Cortez looks to have a promising tread pattern:

All the demo bikes at Skyline (Afan) are running Crossmark on the rear and Advantage up front. I wasn't too sure but my wife took thier advice and now won't run anything else. Next trye change I'll probably give it a go.0

I can highly recommend a 2.5" (comes up more like a 2.35") Dual Ply Super Tacky Swampthing on the front. It weighs 1080g but to be honest I don't really notice the extra weight. What I do notice though is the superb grip in all conditions and on all terrain - wet rocks, dry rocks, hardpack, gravel, sticky mud etc etc Very confidence inspiring!
I have personally tried this in wet conditions at CYB and it rocks

I find my 2.2 Mountain Kings perfect for the wet rocks at Coed Y Brenin0

I can second Mountain King's for wet rocks at Afan too....2016 Giant Defy Advanced Pro 0
2012 Scott Foil 40
2009 Spesh Allez Elite
2005 Rocky Mountain Element 700 -
Mountain King is a turd compared to the Kenda Nevegal (rear) and Kenda Blue Groove (front) when it comes to Coed/Afan/Cwm Carn etc...
I own both...0 -
Thanks for all the tips,
Zero - is there something in particular that makes the Kenda's better than the Conti's or just general feeling?0 -
I just did CYB (Dragon's back) and Marin at the weekend running Maxxis High Roller 2.1s on my Commie 5.5 VIP and I did not a single jot of mither. No pinch flats, no loss of control, nowt.0
